Draw pieces a to d directly on fabric or a piece of
pattern paper and cut out.
Add seam and hem allowances:
Seams and edges 1.5 cm (% in). The measure-
ments for pieces a to d include allowances.

Stitch narrow edges of bag piece together, right
side facing in, Press seam allowances open.
Turn upper edge of bag piece to inside, 7.5 cm (3
ins) wide, as a self-facing, and press fold edge.
Turn facing up again. Stitch bottom piece right
sides together lower edge of bag, right sides
facing.
Stitch narrow edges of bag lining piece together,
leaving approx. 15 cm (6 ins) open in centre of
seam, for turning. Press seam allowances open.
Stitch lining bottom to bag lining.
Pull bag lining over bag of main fabric, with right
sides facing. Stitch lining to inside facing edge
(seam allowance width = 1.5 em/% in). Turn bag
right side out through opening in seam. Lay lining
with facing (pressed fold) inside bag. Topstitch 6
cm (2 % ins) from upper edge of bag.
Pin attachment seams of bottom pieces together
exactly. Reach through seam opening, between
‘main fabric and lining, grasp seam allowances of
attachment seams, and pull them to outside.
Stitch seam allowances together, close to seams.
Push bottom pieces back in place again.
Fold strap in half lengthwise, right side facing in
Stitch edges together, leaving approx. 10 cm (8
ins) open on long edge, for turning. Trim seam al
lowances, trimming diagonally across corners.
Turn strap right side out. Sew seam opening closed,
and press edges.
On upper edge, opposite the seam, mark half the
bbag’s width, with basting stitches, Pin strap ends
to upper bag edge, 6 cm (2 % ins) long, centering,
stape ends over seam and over marking. Stitch
strap ends in place with a square of stitching and
ina crisscross.
To attach the eyelets, first fold upper bag edge so
that seam meets marking, and mark fold edges
with basting stitches. Insert eyelets 5 cm (2 ins) to
each side of each marking and seam, spaced 3 cm
(1. ins) from upper edge. Weae cord through
eyelets so that cord ends exit on front of bag. Knot
cord ends.
