Abstract
In this article we will present the results from the investigation on the knowledge and understanding of the most
important concepts related to physical quantities and units among the eighth grade primary education students.
Paper and pencil tests with conceptual and conventional questions were created to probe the students’ knowledge and
understanding as well as to investigate the conditions in which the knowledge is acquired. 300 eighth graders from Kosovo were
tested. Students from urban and rural areas were included.
The acquired knowledge is mainly at the first level, according to the Bloom’s taxonomy. Very few of the knowledge is at
the second level and the third level knowledge is negligible. Higher levels of knowledge didn’t exist at all. In other words, the
pupils have problems to apply the gained knowledge, which means that this part of teaching is not present on the education
process.
