Web Whiteboard Lesson Plan

What: Instructional Technology Training


Time: One Hour Session
Designed for: All teachers, any subjects, multiple grade levels
Overview: Teachers will learn how to use and implement Web Whiteboard in their teaching and
with their students. Web Whiteboard is a free and easy-to-use digital tool. It allows for
collaboration and real-time access by one or more users. It serves as a great introduction to using
an interactive projector or SMART Board. In addition, teachers will learn how to create a Google
Hangout.

Standards Addressed: GAPSC, NETS – T, and NETS – S


GAPSC
2.1 Content Standards & Student Technology Standards Candidates model and facilitate the
design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student
content standards and student technology standards.
2.3 Authentic Learning Candidates model and facilitate the use of digital tools and resources to
engage students in authentic learning experiences.
2.4 Higher Order Thinking Skills Candidates model and facilitate the effective use of digital
tools and resources to support and enhance higher order thinking skills (e.g., analyze, evaluate,
and create); processes (e.g., problem-solving, decision-making); and mental habits of mind (e.g.,
critical thinking, creative thinking, metacognition, self-regulation, and reflection).
3.1 Classroom Management & Collaborative Learning Candidates model and facilitate
effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies to maximize teacher and
student use of digital tools and resources.
3.2 Managing Digital Tools and Resources Candidates effectively manage digital tools and
resources within the context of student learning experiences.
NETS – T
1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of
subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance
student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
Teachers:
a. promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness
b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital
tools and resources
c. promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual
understanding and thinking, planning,
and creative processes

2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Teachers design,
develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating
contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the
knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers:

a. design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to
promote student learning and creativity

5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership Teachers continuously improve their


professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and
professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and
resources. Teachers:

a. participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of


technology to improve student learning

NETS – S

1. Creativity and Innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and
develop innovative products and processes using technology. Students:

a. apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes


b. create original works as a means of personal or group expression

2. Communication and Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to


communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning
and contribute to the learning of others. Students:

a. interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital
environments and media
d. contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems
6. Technology Operations and Concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of
technology concepts, systems, and operations. Students:

a. understand and use technology systems


b. select and use applications effectively and productively

Lesson Objectives:

Teachers will complete a one-hour professional-development session that will train them in using
Web Whiteboard as a digital tool in their classrooms. Teachers will be trained in using Web
Whiteboard as a collaborative tool for students. Teachers will be introduced to the Georgia
Professional Standards relating to technology. Teachers will be introduced to the ISTE Standards
for students and teachers.

Materials:

➢ Chromebooks – recommend that teachers have a wireless mouse

Workshop Procedure:

➢ Introduce the workshop.


➢ Discuss the GAPSC Standards.
➢ Discuss the NETS – S Standards.
➢ Discuss the NETS – T Standards.
➢ Refer teachers to handouts that are found on the workshop web page.
➢ Discuss how Web Whiteboard can be utilized in the classroom for teachers and for
students.
➢ Handout Instructions for using Web Whiteboard.
➢ Have teachers follow the instructions to get familiar with using Web Whiteboard.
➢ Teachers will learn how to create a Google Hangout and utilize a handout on the
procedures.
➢ Teachers will learn how to send a link for collaborating on a whiteboard and utilize a
handout on the procedures.
➢ Have teachers create a whiteboard together collaboratively to see how it can be used for
students.
➢ Have teachers brainstorm ways they can create an assignment where students work
collaboratively to utilize Web Whiteboard and share their ideas with the group.
➢ Have teachers complete the post-workshop survey.

Evaluation/Assessment:

The implementation and use of Web Whiteboard as a digital tool will be evaluated through
observations where teachers will be observed utilizing and implementing this digital tool. A
formal assessment will take place by having teachers complete a Google Form survey. The
data from this survey will be used to determine the effectiveness of the training session and
the teacher’s understanding and implementation of Web Whiteboard.
