4. Roof and Floor Framing
Roof and Floor framing can be designed using concrete or steel materials and systems_ Many types of
construction systems can be util1zed; the type of construction depending upon many factors, for example
fire rating, local availability, cost, loading, and durablllty_ During the schematic phase, all viable materials
and schemes should be considered to optimize cost and performance.
4.1 Steel Framing
4.1.1 Steel Joists and beams, In combination with metal decking, can provide strong, durable, and
economic framing solutions. Depending on the design loads ~nd conditions, different combinations of
these systems may offer better performance.
4.1.2 Roof systems are usually designed with 38 mm metal deck profiles without concrete fill. Insulating
concrete fill Is used, but doe. not provide any structural support. This type of deck Is preferred when a
minimal amount of roof equipment Is present. or when heavier equipment Is supported with Independent
framing above or below the roof. These decks provide moderate diaphragm performance, and usually act
as semlflexlble to flexible diaphragms, depending upon deck rigidity and beam spacing. DIaphragm
capacity Is controlled through spacing of welds or screws at supports.
4.1.3 Floor systams utilize deck profiles of 50 - 75 mm in depth. Due to the loads and function, these
decks are filled with concrete to provide a level floor surface. These decks are often deformed, which
results In a composite floor slab. Sometimes, thin profile nondeformed roof deck is used Simply as a form
for casting thicker slabs. In this case, no composite action Is used. The resulting slabs are usually treated
as rigid diaphragms. In such cases, wall rigidities, center of gravity, and torsion shall be taken into account
In a rigid diaphragm analysis.
4.1.4 Steel framing may be designed to act compositely with the concrete filled decks. In such designs,
headed studs shall be used to develop the horizontal shear at the Interface of the steel and concrete.
Additional detailing and construction costs shall be weighed against the steel savings, to determine
whether there is an advantage to designing composite beams. The use of nghtwelght concrete can also be
considered, to further reduce beam Weight, but the benefits shall be weighed against higher unit concrete
prices.
4.2 Concrete Framing
4.2.1 Cast-in-pJace or precast concrete are often used for heavily loaded or specialty design structures.
These systems provide strong and durable structures.
4.2.2 Cast-ln-place systems require field forming and tend to lengthen constructiOn time, but these
systems allow for more flexibility In field changes. Most systems are 1-way Slabs, with or without
intermediate beam supports. Concrete slabs are analyzed as rlgicl diaphragms.
4.2.3 Precast systems are often more economical, and can be erected very quickly. These systems,
however, require thorough detailing to ensure constructlbllity and proper performance. Precast systems,
for example prestressed planks, are usually set In place and designed onlY for vertical loads. They rely on
topping slabs to act as a diaphragm to transfer lateral loads to Independent lateral resisting systems, for
example shear walls.

5. Materials
5.1 Concrete Masonry Units
The hollow load bearing concrete masonry units (CMU) shall be type I. manufactured and tested
according to SSA 145 and ASTM C 90. Non-load bearing CMU shall conform to ASTM C 129.

USES:
Mainly used on external walls and on internal walls as well. The Rough Face block is
ready to accept plastering. The Fair Face blocks surface is ready to accept priming
and painting even- without the need of applying surface plastering, provided that all
mortar joints are tooled properly.
ADVANTAGE:
Use of Fair Face blocks saves you time, labor and material cost due to its finishing.
Blocks are also stronger than the normal or rough face units. CMU can also be
manufactured with desired color using Bayer coloring pigments, made in Germany.
PACKAGING:

CMU are cubed together at 108 units per cube and provided with steel straps.
Wooden pallets are provided with ~he blocks on special request and for long haul but
charged separately. One (1) Trailer load = 12 cubes = 1,296 pieces of Concrete
Masonry Units. There is ratio of 1:3 of comer or end block against stretcher block in
a cube.

SPECIAL PRODUCTION:

To meet certain project requirements, a plain end block is produced along with the
stretcher unit which is for the corner of walls and door or window openings. The
same CMU can also be produced with a 190 mm. width (stretcher, with a comer or
plain end, with a Sash, in a U-shape or Lintel unit and in solid form).
