Introduction

The atmosphere of libraries has direct relationship with effective learning.


Libraries are store house of knowledge which acts as a fuel for experimentation in
the laboratories.

University has 9 stories academic resource building with dedicated 4 stories of


library adequate to cater the students need.

Campus central library is fully automated, from RFID entrance to LIBSYS


software in the library making student stay more convenient as there is no long
wait for issuing or depositing a book.

Fully automatic issue- return counter / machine ensures hassle free transaction of
books. Library has a cyber cafe with 150 terminals for the users interested in e-
reading. Subscription of international standard online journals and databases
covering almost every discipline and having access to more than 27000 of e-
journals, theses, reports, Magazines and newspapers etc.

Key Issues

 Students are not much aware about the functions of central library.
 Need of more database for different streams
 Reissue of book is not allowed
 Alternative for database is manual data storage.
 While discussions among students related to studies in central library may
create disturbance to other students.
 Censor won’t work if book is ravaged.
Solutions/ Suggestions
 They should provide awareness session to students.
 Separate glass door should be there so that students won’t get disturb
by noises.
 By glass door segment its help to reduce noise as well as peaceful
environment.
 They are setting up new level to increase sitting capacity.
 Keeping of first aid box for emergency situation.

1. Which software do you use for storing database?
A:- LIBSYS is a commercial software which is used for library automation
system.
2. What is the process for storing data?
In LIBSYS software only they store data and it contains seven modules.
According to client users they can modify and use it.
3. What is the procedure for issue and return?
For students – Normal Degree
Issue 3 books Return 7 days
Honours Degree
Issue 5 book Return 14 days

For Teachers -10 books/ semester for approx 180 days

For PHD/ Scholar – 6 books for 30 days


For Non teaching staffs - 2 books for 15 days
4. How do you arrange books in shelf?
According to DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification) This system is a
numerical scheme for the arrangement of subjects of nonfiction books,
and it classifies books by dividing them into 10 main subject groups.
Every book is given a number and is put on the shelf in number order.
5. How RFID return machine works?

It contains scanner in which it detect within 2 seconds and display on


monitor.

6. What is the percentage of pilferage of books?


The percentage of pilferage of books is 3% - 5% approx.
7. Alternative mechanism for storing database
Manual storage in books
8. No. of employees and their timings
Total 30 employees 2shifts are there morning shift 19 staffs
And in night shift 11 staffs.
9. Cost of maintenance
Its confidential they have budgetary system
10. Whether students can use computer for internet surfing
Yes they can use computer for internet surfing from 8:00 am –
8:00pm
11. Total CCTV cameras in central library and what all cases would be
there?
CCTV is approx 50 and cases such as physical assault and in-
disciplinary case sensitive.
12.Accommodation of students
Sitting capacity 650 till 2017 now they added one more level in 2018 in
which 340 students can accommodate.

13. What is the fine policy?

If student won’t return book on proper date then they are liable for Rs 10
per day.
