INTRODUCTION TO THERMODYNAMICS: TRANSFERRING ENERGY FROM HERE TO THERE

When we observe a thermodynamic system, we know that it has a little curvature instead when we have a
thermodynamic expansion system that the initial state must have a smaller volume or lower the final state
then the process of thermodynamic expansion systems would look like this

In these diagrams, what we are doing is to evaluate the area under the curve, if we integrate the curve from
the beginning to the end; we would have to what is the area under the curve.

First Law of Thermodynamics

It defines that the first law of thermodynamics defines that energy must be conserved at all times. That
means you can never create or destroy energy, all you can do is change your form. Then, from the internal
energy to the heat transfer, from the transfer of work to a change in the state, from the transfer of chemical
energy to the transfer of work, all these small changes are possible, but you can never create or destroy
energy.
E1-E2=Q-W

In the previous image we can see that the change in state energy in state two for the energy in state one
must be balanced by the heat transfer during the process of one to two and the transfer of work during the
process.
IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS

Adiabatic

The term adiabatic refers to elements that prevent the transfer of heat with the environment. An isolated
wall is quite close to an adiabatic limit.
In other words, an adiabatic process is considered to be a special system in which it is not lost nor does it
gain heat energy. This is defined according to the first law of thermodynamics by describing that Q = 0

E IS THE TOTAL ENERGY OF THE SYSTEM

E=KE+PE+U

U=THE INTERNAL ENERGY OF THE SYSTEM(extensive)

It depends on the amount of material present. If we have a property that's been normalized by the mass
then we know that that's an intensive property.

u=the internal energy per mass(intensive)

So, the, we have the internal energy of the system on an absolute basis, on a per unit mass basis.

Heat transfer

Heat transfer is the energy transfer due to a temperature difference. So any time you have a system that has
added temperature different than the surroundings, you are going to have heat transfer occur

The example that we put in the video is that at this moment we are sitting in a chair watching the video
body temperature is different from the temperature of the air that surrounds us and at that moment is
when there is a bone transfer heat transfer.

Heat transfer, like work transfer, depends on the process path.
