Basics

2 Basics
2.1 Preface
This guide is an introduction for a newcomer for getting off to a quick start with the
Advanced Diagnostic FDS-OPC server in connection with Honeywell´s Experion
PKS by explaining the few necessary essentials to maintain an OPC integration step
by step. For more details of configuring, tuning and running of your specific installa-
tion please refer to the chapter Application Engineering in the HD2-DM-A manual.
It is assumed that the user has knowledge about the use of Honeywell´s Experion
PKS OPC-Client, for more details please refer to the respective user manual.

2.2 Schematic OPC Diagnostic Structure

In general the OPC diagnostic infrastructure is made up of different hardware (e.g.
Diagnostic Modules, Fieldbus Power Hub motherboards, PCs) and software
(e.g. FDS-OPC server, OPC client) components.
The figure 2.1 gives a stylized overview of all included components and how they in-
teract in the whole composition.
The real assembly depends on your hardware and plant infrastruture. It also depends
on your individual requirements.

3 FDS and OPC Server

The FieldConnexR Diagnostic Server (FDS) and the OPC Server are administrated
with a small front end application named FDS-Control Center. An icon within the
taskbar shows the FDS status:

FDS and OPC Server

3.3 OPC Server

OPC servers provide a method for many different software packages to access data
from a process control device. By default an OPC-DA server is installed together with
the Diagnostic Manager. This OPC-DA server communicates with the FDS and pro-
vides data for access from several OPC clients.
To access the OPC-DA server the OPC-Package must be installed.
3.3.1 OPC Server Name Space
The name space of the OPC-DA server is structured as follows:

Figure 3.3: OPC name space structure

Name Meaning
FDSOPCService.DA Name of the OPC service (PROG_ID)
FDS TAG of the FDS server
Port TAG of the FDS Port
DMA 001 (1-4) TAG of the Diagnostic module and the appropriate
segment
State Describes the current status of the node by the follo-
wing values:
0: Good
1: Maintenance Required
2: Out of Specification
3: Hardware Error
4: Communication Error
(Meanings see below)
SummarizedState Provides the highest prior State data value and the
highest prior State data quality for the actual node
and all subordinated nodes.

4.1 Maintaining the OPC Server with the Honeywell Experion PKS
The following description assumes that the Advanced Diagnostic OPC server runs
on a different PC than the Honeywell Experion PKS (OPC clients in this case).
To allow the OPC client to access the OPC server and to maintain the OPC service
the following steps must be performed:
• Configure OPC Client and OPC Server PC
• Connect Experion PKS to the Diagnostic OPC Server
• Configure the infrastructure and data points within Experion PKS
#Configure OPC Client and OPC Server PC
1. Define the PC on which the OPC server is running in the host table of the PC
where Honeywell´s Experion PKS server is running and vice versa.
2. Define the "mngr account" on the OPC server PC with the same password as on
the Experion PKS server PC.
3. Make sure that both, the Experion PKS PC and the OPC server PC belong to
the same Windows Workgroup or Domain.

Check Firewall options

Make sure that on both Client and Server PC the DCOM port (default 135) is released
for network communication.

#Connect Experion PKS to the Diagnostic OPC Server

1. Copy the file FDSOPCServiceDA.exe (C:\Programs\Pepperl-
Fuchs\DTM\FieldConnex Diagnostic\FDS) from the server PC to the Experi-
on PC.
2. Open command window (Start/Run and type in cmd)
3. Type in the command shown below to register the Diagnostic OPC server on the
Experion server PC.

#Test the connection with the Softing OPC Toolbox Demo Client
A smart way to validate the OPC connectivity between OPC client and OPC server
is to use the Softing Toolbox Demo Client you can find on the Advanced Diagnostic
CD in the folder Tools/OPC client.
Perform the following steps on the OPC client (Experion PKS PC):
1. Start SOClient.exe
2. Choose from the OPC server tab/Remote
3. Choose the PC the Diagnostic OPC server is running on
4. Choose Data Access V2
5. Doble-Click FDSOPCServiceDA
6. Change to tab DA Browse, now you are able to browse the OPC structure

#Configure the infrastructure and data points within Experion PKS

To receive data from the Diagnostic OPC server you have to configure the required
infrastructure and data points on the "Experion Scada System". To do so, proceed as
follows:
1. Build a Channel to the P+F OPC-server

2. Build a controller for the P+F OPC-server

#Testing the OPC communication

To test the communication introduce some errors on a FF segment and see if they
are reported by Experion PKS. To do so, proceed as follows:
1. Remove one of the terminators on the segment to generate an "Out of Speci-
fication" status
2. Check the Alarm Summary of Experion PKS to see if an alarm has been repor-
ted

3. Double-click the alarm line to see the current status:

For each FF-H1 link that is monitored through a P+F Advanced Diagnostics Module
a status point must be built. Note that each P+F Advanced Diagnostics Module mo-
nitors up to 4x FF-H1 links.
