Scenario: Network Infrastructure Monitoring

Overview

Description
This lab introduces you to network monitoring capabilities of Pravail NSI.
This lab is divided into the following parts:
• Network interfaces reports
• Network alerts

Setup
Pravail NSI Controller is receiving NetFlow and interacting via SNMP
with a CPE Cisco router.

Objectives
After completing this lab, you will be able to do the following:
• Use network reports;
• Create network alert rules.

Equipment/Tools
The following equipment is required to complete this lab:

• web browser
When accessing training labs, you will be prompted for Training Portal
Authentication. Use following credentials:

• Login: student17
• Password: 44AYJCgf82

• The estimated completion time for this lab is 20 minutes.

Network reports
In this section we will look at top users of a specific network infrastructure
interface.
1. Log into https://pod17.training.arbor.net/
using credentials you have configured in lab 1. Note that you will be
presented with proxy authentication first, use your student login:

2. Navigate to Explore->Routers and Interfaces

3. Note interface load and QoS statistics

4. In Top Interfaces table click on explore… in dropdown menu of

interface Ethernet0/1

5. Check top hosts, top services and top connections for different time
intervals

Network alerts
In this section we will configure a rule that generates alert whenever load
on interface Ethernet0/1 is higher than 500kbps.

1. Navigate to Policy->Network Alerts

2. Click Network Traffic Alert Configuration

3. Click Add Network Alert

4. Select Over Rate Alerts, set threshold to 500 kbps, select

Ethernet 0/1 interface and re-use Network Security Policy
Violation Notification Destination.

5. Save Network Alert Rule

6. Wait for 5 minutes

7. Navigate to Explore->Alerts

8. Select Network Anomalies category in Filter

9. Log into web interface of syslog server with following credentials:

10. Check syslog message corresponding to the alert
