1. TITLE OF THE STUDY
“A study on effectiveness of recruitment and selection at RUBCO Ltd”
2. INTRODUCTION:

The quality of employees a company hires depends on an effective Recruitment and Selection
strategy. However, the process isn’t always smooth sailing. Employers face tangible problems such
as the cost of advertising job opening and intangible obstacles such as improving communication
between recruiters and hiring managers. Therefore, to get the right workforce at a comparatively
lower rate in the present scenario is a challenging task.

Natural Rubber, also called Indian Rubber or caoutchouc, as initially produced , consists of polymers
of the organic compound isoprene, with minor impurities of other organic compounds plus water.
Malaysia is a leading producer of rubber. Forms of polyisoprene that are used as natural rubbers are
classified elastomers. Natural Rubber is used by many manufacturing companies for the production
of rubber products. Currently, rubber is harvested mainly in the form of the latex from certain trees.
The latex is a sticky, milky colloid drawn from off by making incisions into the bark and collecting
the fluid in vessels in a process called “tapping”. The latex then is refined into rubber ready for
commercial processing. Natural rubber is used extensively in many applications and products, either
alone or in combination with other materials. In most of its useful forms, it has a large stretch ratio
and high resilience, and is extremely waterproof.

Rubber exhibits unique physical and chemical properties. Rubber’s stress-strain behavior exhibits the
Mullins effect and the Payne effect, and is often modeled as hyperplastic. Rubber strain crystallizes.
Due to the presence of a double bond in each repeat unit, natural rubber is susceptible to vulcanization
and sensitive to ozone cracking.

The two main solvents for rubber are turpentine and naphtha(petroleum). The former has been in use
since 1764 when Francois Freneau made the discovery. Giovanni Fabbroni is credited with the
discovery of Naphtha as a rubber solvent in 1779. Because rubber does not dissolve easily, the
material is finely divided by shredding prior to its immersion.

An ammonia solution can be used to prevent the coagulation of raw latex while it is being
transported from its collection site.
3. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Coconut is an important tropical oil seed crop, which gives coconut water, kernel, oilcake for cattle
etc. Since, it is one of the leading commodities in agricultural exports; the production program of the
crop is of critical importance in improving the efficient use of resources. The cost of production and
net return obtained per unit, would determine the profitability of the crop. The profitability of an
enterprise depends upon the efficient use of the resources in production. Though production is the
initiation of the developmental process, it could bring less gain to the producers unless there exists an
efficient marketing system. The producers depend upon the market conditions to fulfill their hopes
and expectations. But forced sales, multiplicity of market charges, malpractices in unregulated
markets and superfluous middlemen are the problems faced by the cultivators. The market
imperfection and the consequent loss in marketing efficiency are more pronounced in markets for
perishable commodities which require quick transportation and better storage facilities. Though
coconut has a pride, not only for its diverse uses but also for its special preference to consumers,
both rich and poor, it is subjected to the above stated production and marketing problems.

4. OBJECTIVES:

A task stands meaningless if there is no objective attached to it. The purpose of

selecting the topic of “Employee recruitment and Selection” is to study how workforce
is hired/recruited and selected into an organization and to monitor and learn the latest
trends and technologies emerging related to the same and to gather practical
knowledge of the actual processes taking place in the organization.

The basic objectives being:

 To understand the internal recruitment and selection process at RUBCO Ltd.

 To identify areas where there can be the range for improvement and give
suitable suggestions to streamline the recruitment and selection processes.
 To analyze the satisfaction level of the employees about the recruitment and
selection procedure of an organization.
5. STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESIS

The following hypothesis is put forward in this study:

1. Ho: Quality control techniques used by the organization and profitability of the organization
are independent.
2. Hi: Quality control techniques used by the organization and profitability of the organization
are not independent.

6. OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS OF CONCEPT

Technique According to David Dorfman (2011) is defined technique as a way of carrying out a
particular task, especially the execution or performance of manufacturing work or a scientific
procedure.

Technique can be described as ability in a particular field.

A technique is a systematic procedure formal or routine by which a task is accomplished.

Quality control techniques: According to Juran (1974:448) quality control technique is a

regulatory technique through which we measure actual quality performance compared with standard
and act on the differences.

According to Deming, W.E (1976:26) quality control technique is a function or collection of duty
which must be performed throughout an organization in order to achieve its quality objectives.

Specification: Is the description of an item ordered by an organization that a description given must
confirm to. Is the statement providing description list of characteristics or requirement laid down for
materials component or process service?

Reliability: These are products or services that have all characteristics expected of them. It can be
defined as the profitability of a product performing its purpose adequately for an intended period or
under a given operating condition.

In this definition four elements are being stressed upon job probability adequate performance, time
and operating. To achieve reliability, a product must be properly designed for its function. There
must also be a follow up to ensure that the quality of materials (printing paper ink etc) and
workmanship is consistent with desired reliability
Durability: A good or product made to withstand repeated use over a relatively long period, usually several
years or more. Able to perform or compete over a long period, as by avoiding or overcoming injuries

Quality control: Is the function of collection of duties which must be performed throughout the
organization in order to achieve its quality objectives.

In printing industries which major objectives is to produce books Newspaper in general which has to
do with feeding the public with vital information, may not be irrelevant to lay emphasis on quality
control in the determination of its goals and objectives.

Construct operational definitions that include:

1) A detailed definition of the concept

2) Information about the scope of the concept is measured.

3) Detailed information about how the concept will be measured. Standardized, structured methods for
collecting the data are described. The concepts will contain several different values or categories
(variables).

We also derive our concepts from previous theories. We examine how previous researchers have defined the
concept. One approach to research, meta-analysis, examines how operational definitions vary from study to
study and how these definitions influence the findings.

7. DATA COLLECTION
Primary data:

1. Primary data will be collected using a structured questionnaire as well as personal

interview method.
2. Visit the organization and observing the work flow.

Secondary data:

The secondary data for this work will be obtained from company magazines and brochures,
website, internet, text books, reports and other promotional materials.

8. PLAN OF ANALYSIS

The data collected from various sources will be tabulated and represented using the
percentage and ranking method. Graphical tools like bar diagrams, pie charts etc., will be used
to illustrate the tabulated data pictorially. Inferences and interpretation of the data will be done
on the basis of tabulated data.

9. CHAPTER SCHEME

1. Introduction
2. Review of literature and Research Design
3. Profile of Industry/ company
4. Data analysis and inference
5. Summary of findings, conclusions and suggestions
