3.4 Wireless Configuration of 802.11 PC Card

The purpose of this feature is to define the wireless settings of the PC that will be used to interface with the
WiFi Comm Adapter

3.4.1 Function: Configure Wireless settings for the 802.11 PC Card

3.4.1.1 Brief Description
The 802.11 Wireless settings on the PC will need to be configured to match the WiFi Comm
Adapter settings specified above in Section 3.3. The WiFi Comm Adapter kit will be paired
with a specific card at the initial distribution of the product. However, the service tool
implementation will be independent of the card used.

The customer will be required to enter the Wireless network settings during the installation of
the PCMCIA card driver and utility. Instructions will need to be provided in the kit to instruct
the user of the proper Wireless settings.

A future requirement is that Cat ET will automatically adjust the card settings (see Appendix D)
to match the Comm Adapter settings.

Appendix D: Future Requirements

This appendix lists the items and features discussed during the requirements gathering process but are not
included as part of the project at this time.

A1. Network Infrastructure Support

Future requirement is for a Networked version of Cat ET

A1. Dual Data Link Support

Future requirement is the adapter to support two data links active at once (i.e. J1939/J1708 or
J1939/CDL)

A2. Cat ET
A2.1. Program Wireless Network Settings
Electronic Technician will complete the configuration of the wireless card with limited user
interaction. The customer will not be required to setup the wireless and network settings for their
PC. Meetinghouse.com has an API that may provide a generic interface to the Wireless settings.

A2.2. Replicate Configuration Options to other Cat ETs

The site and machine set-ups may need to be copied/ appended to. This is only important if the
name of the card is stored on the PC instead of in the card

A2.3. RP-1210 Compliant

In order to use the comm adapter with service tools other than Cat ET, RP1210 compliant drivers
need to be supplied with the adapter. The drivers that will be created for the initial release of the
adapter will be based on RP1210, but will not be fully compliant with the standard and will not be
distributed separately from Cat ET.
