Physics and Chemistry
1. Calculate the molar concentration of a 17.5% by mass aqueous sodium hydroxide solution with a
density of 1.05 g/mL.
2. Aluminum is a chemical element having an atomic weight of 27 and an atomic number of 13.
Determine the number of protons that aluminum has.
3. Write the chemical formula for carbon tetrachloride.
4. Consider the chemical equation: CaCl2 + Fe2(SO4)3 = CaSO4 + FeCl3 . How many moles of CaSO4 is needed
to yield a balanced equation?
5. The atmospheric pressure in Baguio on a certain day was 99.3 kPa. What was the pressure in torr?
6. In a NaOH solution, [OH –] is 2.9 x 10 –4 M. Calculate the pH of the solution.
7. Technetium-99 is used to form pictures of internal organs in the body and is often used to assess heart
damage. The rate constant for decay of T-99 is 0.116/hr. What is the half-life of this nuclide?
8. A 25.0 mL of HCl solution is titrated with 3.5 N standard NaOH solution. If it took 38.2 mL of NaOH to
neutralize the acid, what is the normality of the acid?
9. It refers to the sum of the number of protons and the number of neutrons present in the nucleus of an
atom of an element.
10. An aqeous solution containing 0.157g Penicillin-G in 100 mL of solution has an osmotic pressure of
11.65 kPa at 25ºC. Calculate the molecular weight of Penicillin-G.
11. Calculate the resistance of a glass cylinder that is 10.0 cm long and has a cross-sectional area of 2.00 x
10 –4 m2. Note: ρ for glass is 3.0 x 10 10 Ω-m.
12. Determine the range of resistance of the following color-coded resistor: blue, green, red, silver.
13. If it takes 450 J of work to stretch a spring 8.0 cm, what is the spring constant?
14. A 200 g ball is whirled at the end of a cord 0.60 m long in a vertical circle at the rate of 1.5 rps. What is
the tension in the cord when the ball is at the highest point?
15. A curve of 183n m radius on a level road is banked at the correct angle for the velocity of 13.4 m/s. If
an automobile rounds this curve at 26.8 m/s, what is the minimum coefficient of friction between the
tires and the road so that the automobile will not skid?
16. A stone is thrown vertically upward from a tower 200 m high with an initial velocity of 22.0 m/s. What
is the stone’s velocity when it strikes the ground?
17. A 110 kg artillery shell leaves the barrel of a cannon with a muzzle velocity of 50 m/s. Find the
momentum of the shell.
18. What is the angle in between vector A = 4i – 5j + 3k and a vector B = 5i +2j – 6k.
19. A circuit is composed of seven capacitors connected in parallel. Determine the total capacitance of the
circuit if three of the capacitors has a capacitance of 5.4 μF each and the rest has 6.2 μF each.
20. It refers to the apparent change on the observed frequency of a wave that is caused by the motion of
the wave source relative to the observer.
