PREAMBLE

Rapid MetroRail Gurgaon adopted standard gauge with third rail traction system .The
Schedule of dimensions has been proposed based on the following guiding factors:

1. The Kinematic Envelope and the other infringements have been calculated for
the 2800mm wide and 3885mm high rolling stock, based on the kinematic
envelope calculations. The track and vehicle maintenance shall conform to the
clearances indicated therein during the period these stocks are in operation.

2. The clearances are based on the assumption that windows are sealed and doors
are closed during movement/operation.

3. Track shall be maintained to the tolerances taken for calculation of kinematic

envelope.

4. The Structure Gauge indicated in the SOD shall not be violated under any
circumstances except platform coping.

5. The kinematic envelope indicated in SOD shall not be violated under any
circumstances.

6. The vehicle kinematic Envelope for 50kmph shall be applied only within the
confines of stations. At all other locations, the full 80kmph envelope shall be
used for determining the structure gauge and electrical clearances.

7. Maximum operating speed at platform shall be 50kmph and kinematic envelop

will not be infringed under any circumstances.

1.4 KINEMATIC ENVELOPE
For Kinematic Envelope for level or constant grade tangent track, refer to
Figure No. RMGL-1 on page 29 for elevated sections with ballastless track.

1.5 STRUCTURE GAUGE

1.5.1 Elevated Section with Ballast less Track:

The structure gauge (Fixed structure line) has been arrived at by allowing
minimum clearance of 150 mm to Kinematic Envelope.
Refer Figure No. RMGL- 2 on Page 32 for structure gauge on elevated
section with ballastless track for level/constant grade, tangent track.

Note: Extra allowances shall be provided for curves as laid down at Para
1.6

1.6 EXTRA CLEARANCES ON CURVES

Following are the allowances considered for curves:

1.6.1 Inside of curve

(A) Curvature Effect

(i) Mid throw at the center of vehicle = V (in mm) = 125xC2/R

(ii) Allowance due to gauge widening on curves

The values of item (i) to (ii) above, refer to Appendix - 2(ELE)1/2 on

Pages-21

Note:
Lateral shift of 32mm due to nosing is included in kinematic Envelope for
elevated section for ballast less tangent track (and as a result also
included in structure gauge) which shall be subtracted from the total
allowances worked out as at Para 1.6.1(A) above if the value of mid
throw (V) is equal to or greater than 32mm. However, if the value of
midthrow (V) is less than 32mm, the curvature effect shall be due to
widening of the gauge only (mid throw minus 32mm shall be taken as
zero)

(B) Allowance for Cant

For Elevated Section, the lean ‘L’ due to Cant at any point at height ‘h’
above rail level is given by :

L = Ca x h/g (all in mm)

Note: For value of Structure Gauge (E1) for inside of a curve with cant
effect only, as shown in Figure No. RMGL- 4 on Page-34, refer to
Appendix 3 (ELE) on Page 23-24 for Elevated Sections (Ballast less Track)

5
January, 2013
(C) Allowance for Vertical Curve (Vertical Throw)

Vertical throw V1 and V2 (in mm) for vertical curve shall be calculated as
under:

V1 (with vehicle centre in sag or vehicle end on summit)

= 125xC2/R.

V2 (with vehicle center on summit or vehicle end in sag)

= (125 C12/R )-(125C2/R)

Values of Vertical Throw V1 and V2 due to vertical curves of different

radii are shown in Figure No: RMGL- 5 Page 35.

1.6.2 Outside of Curve

(A) Curvature Effect

(i) End throw at the end of vehicle = Vo (in mm)

= [125xC12/R] – [125xC2/R]

(ii) Allowance due to gauge widening on curves

(iii) Additional nosing due to gauge widening on curves

The values of item (i) to (iii) are shown in Appendix -2(ELE)2/2 on Page
22.

(B) Allowance for Cant

For Elevated Section, the lean ‘L’ due to Cant at any point at height ‘h’
above rail level is given by:

L = (-) Ca x h/g (all in mm)

-ve sign indicates relief due to cant or reduction in clearance required.

Note :
Full relief for lean due to cant (Ca) is to be taken into account only for
calculation of track spacing without any structure between tracks. In
case there is a structure adjacent to track, relief for lean is to be taken
into account only if the cant provided is greater than 50 mm and shall be
limited to a value = (Ca -50) x h/g.

For value of Structure Gauge (F1) on outside of curve with cant effect
only, as shown in Figure No: RMGL 4 on Page-34, refer to Appendix-3
(ELE) on Page 23-24 for Elevated Sections (Ballast less Track)

1.10 SPECIAL OPERATING CONDITIONS

1.10.1 Scheduled maintenance of permanent way will be performed outside

service hours only.

1.10.2 As the track is open to the climate, temperature variation will take place
in the track which may require patrolling of the section during extreme
winter and summer. For this purpose, provisions shall be made for visual
inspection from the walkways on the outside of each track, permitting
safe walking for patrol men.

1.10.3 In view of chances of collision of derailed train with train coming from
other direction, adequate measures shall be taken to restrict lateral
movement of derailed vehicles on elevated structures. Proper
communication facilities should also be available at the stations.

1.10.4 All the passenger coaches will be provided with sealed windows including
the cab, to prevent limbs and heads of passengers projecting outside the
train. The passenger coaches will be provided with automatic remote
controlled double leaf doors with their control from driver’s cab. Until
all doors are proved closed, it will not be possible to start the train.
Likewise, until the train has come to the stop, it will not be possible to
energize the door opening circuits.

1.10.5 No work men/equipments are allowed between vehicle and structure

gauge during operation of trains.

1.10.6 In case of at-grade and elevated section wherever the track is expected
to be laid on surface and passing through populated areas, there are
chances of people passing through the track. Considering this fact, to
prevent the access to the track by general public, stray cattle and other
animals from the adjacent areas, all at-grade sections and wherever
needed, on elevated section, will be robustly fenced as 750 volts DC
traction system with third rail bottom current collection and track return
current.

1.10.7 In case of failure of all four primary springs of vehicle on one side (which
is an exceptional situation), the train doors shall not be opened at station
platforms.

1.10.8 The way side signaling, wherever provided, in addition to ATP, on

temporary or permanent basis will be so located that proper visibility to
the motorman is ensured.

1.10.9 The speed of trains shall be restricted to 40kmph on platform when wind
speed is more than 70kmph but less than 90kmph. When wind speed
exceeds 90kmph, the train movement shall be halted, preferably at
platforms. Stationary trains shall not be started till wind speed is below
90kmph.
