DIGITAL SHORT FILM COMPETITION

Contest Guidelines

ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to all students of Philippine Higher Education Institutions
Individual or a group of not more than five may submit an entry.

GUIDELINES
answers the question "Why pursue a degree and/or career involving Statistics?"
shot using a mobile device (mobile phone, digital camera)
should be in HD file (MP4 format)
running time between 3-5 minutes
opening and/or closing credits (optional)
dialogues may be in any language, provided that other languages aside from Filipino and
English must have subtitles

COMPETITION AND JUDGING


The competition has two stages: Regional and National.
First Placers from the Regional Level of the competition will compete in the National Level.
The Criteria for judging is as follows:

Storytelling (30%)
Does the story have a clear structure and plot?
Are the characters adequately developed and relevant?
Is the story original and engaging?
Are the images arranged logically and effectively in a way that fits the

Creativity and Originality (30%)
Does the writing and direction use imaginative and creative ways to convey
the theme?
Does the film exhibit originality?
Does the film display innovative ideas or story telling techniques?
Engagement (20%)
How strongly does this entry stimulate thoughts and ideas?
Does the film provoke an emotional response?
Technical Quality
Cinematography (10%)
Is the camera steady and are the shots framed and focused?
Are close-ups and camera angles used to add meaning to the story?
Is the lighting and camera positioning visually effective?
Editing (5%)
Does the editing help to clarify the story and enhance the pacing and flow of
the story?
Are transitions smooth and well-paced or distracting?
Are the opening titles and closing credits appealing and easy to read?
Audio, Music, Sound Effects (5%)
Does the audio and soundtrack complement the story?
Is the dialogue and/or narration clear and easy to understand?
If there are sound effects, are they appropriate to the story or do they detract

SUBMISSIONS
Entries must be submitted to the CHED Regional Office on or before 5:00 PM of September 15,
2017.
Participants may submit the short film personally, electronically (INSERT EMAIL ADDRESS
HERE) or through a courier, provided that entries are received by the CHED Regional Office on
or before the deadline.

Name of institution

AWARDS
Regional level winners will be announced on September 29, 2017.
Prices for the Regional Level winners include:
FIRST PLACE: Certificate of Recognition signed by the CHED Regional Director and
work will be posted in the CHED Regional Office Website.
SECOND PLACE: Certificate of Recognition signed by the CHED Regional Director.
THIRD PLACE: Certificate of Recognition signed by the CHED Regional Director.
Winners of the National Level will be announced on October 15, 2017 and will be awarded
during the Culmination of the National Statistics Month Celebration.
Prices for the National Level winners include:
FIRST PLACE: Certificate of Recognition signed by the CHED Chairperson and
another Certificate of Recognition from the Philippine Statistics Authority. The
National level winner's work will be posted in the Higher Education Portal.
SECOND PLACE: Certificate of Recognition signed by the CHED Chairperson.
THIRD PLACE: Certificate of Recognition signed by the CHED Chairperson.
