Bulletin Board

My bulletin board is a combination of Language Arts (writing), and Social Studies. I

created my Social Studies lesson based on the career that the students wanted to be when they

grew up. The students used a yellow sheet of paper, that represented a crystal ball, and drew a

sketch/written explanation of their job/why they chose it. Turning Point Academy is a program

that combines K-2 all into one classroom, and we come together as a whole during PBL time. I

taught my Social Studies lesson during this time, and thought it was a good idea to incorporate

language arts as well. We brainstormed job ideas on the board, and the students put it to life on

their paper. Majority of Kindergarten and First graders are not at a level to write full sentences;

therefore, I had them write down the name of their job instead. I emphasized what each letter

should look like, as well as writing their job names on the board for a reference. The Second

graders were required to write the following phrase, “When I grow up, I want to be a ____

because _____.” I went ahead and wrote the phrase on the board, just in case they had difficulty

with spelling. My bulletin board focuses on what path in life they might take one day, and how to

write a complete sentence explaining it. I used their “crystal ball” drawings, and construction

paper to make this bulletin board.
