Comparison:
The extension of this lab was expected to have data varied from the regular lab. For example, in
test one of the extension, it was observed that the golf ball exhibited a 4.8 second time between
collision and equilibrium. This time was exhibited while colliding with balls that are smaller
both in size and in diameter, however the medium super ball, which is bouncier to the touch,
caused the golf ball to have a higher time from collision to equilibrium. In comparison, during
the regular trials, the golf balls exhibited times of 1.26 seconds, 1.35 Seconds, and 0.69 seconds
from collision to equilibrium when colliding with like balls.

Conclusion

If the Round About Rollers data were to have been collected in an enclosed container, we would
have been unable to see the collision point, forcing us to depend on the sound of the impact for
time data. This would make ourdata even more imprecise because of the accuracy of the sound
heard. A closed container would also prevent external force such as touching or air from adding
any extra force to the balls, causing them to not be equal to one another.

When compared to collisions on a frictionless surface (Air Table), the balls would continue to
move if not counteracted by friction or another boundary. When rolled on the floor, if the floor
was completely level the balls would come to a stop; if the floor was not level the balls would
roll in the direction of the tilt of the floor. On the frictionless surface however, no other forces
counteract the force applied to the balls/puck when pushed, so according to Newton’s first and
third laws, the object will continue to move.
