WHY VOTE? Our voices matter, and this is

the time to use them. As we have seen in recent
years, we cannot take election outcomes for granted.
High voter participation also shows elected officials that
our community is active and important.
Since the 2016 election, making our voices heard
through the ballot box is more crucial.
Local representation matters more than ever. With
a draconian administration in DC, it’s crucial that we
have local and Congressional electeds who we can work
with, whatever comes at us from the White House.

• Felon Voting Rights, via the NY Civil Liberties Union: In NY, you can vote after a felony
conviction while on probation or after completing parole. Your voting rights are automatically
restored, but you have to re-register in order to vote. You do not need any special documentation to

ELECTION 2018 CHECKLIST:

□ STEP 1: MAKE A PLAN TO VOTE!
Between now and 11/6, make a voting plan, using the provided HW “What’s
Your Voting Plan?!” sheet. Research shows that those who make a voting plan
for Election Day are more likely to follow through with it. Questions to
consider: What time will you vote? Do you need to vote during working hours,
and do you need to speak with your supervisor? How will you get to the polling
place? Who will you go with? Who from your community can you take with you?
