A book or two at first, a whole room of knowledge gathered by his seat now. The
private quarters were also now declared off limits. Not allowed to enter, not to clean,
not to pour his cup. But today, grim concern, maybe curiosity as well, got the best of
him and he ventured inside.
Normally, for any other room he would be scolded for that much disorder and dust
lying around. There lay dozens of books of lore many with weird, twisted symbols
and on the table an assortment of coloured rocks, one of them smashed to the floor.
And in a corner, a mask in ebony, a black face of stone, expressionless yet still
instilling fear.
Before making it through all the way to pick it up and examine it closer, his master
entered the room. His fiery glare was enough to set him on the run, before the order
was even uttered.
He pours himself another cup and swallows. “Those eyes!”
