Interpreting diagnostic trouble codes of the MID220 Volvo tachograph control unit.
FMI 8 Tachograph detects pulses from the speed sensor when the ignition is
turned off. The car is moving, the contacts in the connectors, the breakage or
short circuit of the wires between the speed sensor and the tachograph, are
oxidized or damaged, a malfunction in the supply of the tachograph voltage.
FMI 2 The tachograph revealed an error of time. The time shown by the
tachograph does not coincide with the real time.
FMI 9 Communication error between the tachograph unit (connector B4) and
the speed sensor. An open or short circuit between the speed sensor and the
tachograph, the contacts in the speed sensor or tachograph connector are
oxidized or damaged, the speed sensor is faulty.
FMI 14 Communication error between the tachograph unit and the speed
sensor. Missing or invalid pulse from the speed sensor. Open or short circuit
between the speed sensor and tachograph, the contacts in the speed sensor or
tachograph connector are oxidized or damaged, the speed sensor is faulty, the
gear wheel in the transmission is damaged.
FMI 7 One or more buttons on the tachograph panel stuck or was pressed for
more than 3 minutes.
FMI 12 Faulty power source for the print device inside the tachograph or the
temperature of the head of the print device is out of the set limits. Wait a while
for the head to cool. Restart the print device by disconnecting it from the
power supply (A1 connector).
FMI 3, 4, 5 No power to the speed sensor. The contacts in the speed sensor or
tachograph connectors are damaged or oxidized, the wires between the speed
sensor and the tachograph are broken or shorted, the speed sensor power
supply wire is shorted to ground, the speed sensor loses power when the
engine starts. Probably defective speed sensor.
FMI 14 While driving, the number 1 card reader is missing or an invalid card
is inserted.
FMI 14 Card identity verification errors or data security checks. The personal
code of the service station mechanic is entered incorrectly 5 times. After a
power outage or power failure, is missing or replaced with another previously
installed card. Error when removing the card from the tachograph of the
previous car. The universal time in the tachograph of the previous car is
different from the time in this tachograph. The card was inserted after the start
of the vehicle. Possibly invalid card.
FMI 14 Faulty or fake speed sensor. The speed sensor is not compatible with
the tachograph. Contacts in the speed sensor or tachograph connectors are
damaged. Open or short circuit between tachograph and speed sensor. Perform
the procedure of combining the speed sensor and the tachograph (requires a
special device for programming).
FMI 14 The registration tray was left open with the ignition off.
FMI 9 The tachograph unit does not receive signals from the MID140
dashboard control unit over the SAE J1939 data channel. Breakage or partial
damage to the wires of the data channel between the blocks.
