Visible Learning into Action: Impact Cycle

Step 1: Evidence gathering
What do I want to find out? How did I gather evidence?
Do my students know what they are learning in
reading, writing, math, science, and social studies? Check one (Attach copy or photo)
Video Diary

Descriptive Writing
✔ Written Responses

✔ Other: Class discussions

Step 2: Baseline Evidence Statements

What I learned in the evidence gathering: I am going to focus on the following….
I passed out papers to each student that Having students write out our actual
asked students to write out what we are learning goals each week to help them
learning in reading, writing, math, and stay focused on them. I think they get
science. All answers did relate to overwhelmed by the amount of topics
activities and topics that we were that we cover and they confuse those
covering, but very few were our actual with our specific learning goals in each
learning goals. Learning goals are subject.
posted on a chart, introduced in lessons
and shared in our newsletter, but the
students have not seemed to connect
with them. My students also regularly
write what they are learning in their data
folders.

Step 3: SMART+ER Goal

5
In _____weeks’ 80 %
time, _____ of my learners
will be able to correctly write our learning goals in reading and math.
Step 4: Research
List sources and describe how they supported your implementation
What do I need to change?:
I need to have the students write out their learning goals on a weekly basis to help them keep track. I also
need to regularly refer to them to help students memorize them.
What do Students need to change?:
Students need to correctly write their learning goals each week when they are modeled and focus on
memorizing them.
What I Want to Learn -Teacher What Sources Will I Use?
I want to learn the best strategies for presenting Training materials and textbooks provided at Visible
learning goals that is engaging for students to learn. Learning trainings.

Step 5: Implementation
Strategies/Actions
I will clearly define learning goals for myself in each subject each week.

I will make sure my learning goals are clearly posted in the classroom for students to reference.

I will create a learning goal sheet that students will write in each week to help them think about and reflect
on our current learning goals.

I will model how to write learning goals and lead the class in recording them on the sheet each week. The
learning goals can go home in Data Folders and be part of our Data Folder reflection sheets.

I will re-assess the class in 5 weeks (the last week before Winter Break).

Step 6: Impact Statement

After repeating the same evidence-gathering methods used at the start, this is what I found:
In progress
Step 7: Where to Next?
List next steps:
1. Create learning goal sheets in math and reading

2.
Assess learning goals again in 5 weeks
