1. OBJECTIVES:

This method statement establishes the mechanical work plan for installation of
NOVEC Fire Suppression System

2. SCOPE OF WORK:

This method statement covers the site installation of NOVEC Fire Suppression Sy stem
as per the requirements as specified in project specification and approved drawing.

3. REFERENCE DOCUMENTS:

 NFPA 2001 – Standard on Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing System


 NFPA 72 – National Fire Alarm and Signaling System
 Approved Drawings
 Approved Material Submittal

4. DEFINITIONS:
 MS – Method Statement
 NFPA – National Fire Protection Association

5. RESPONSIBILITIES:
 The Project/ Construction Manager is overall responsible for the
implementation of method statement and ensure that his team of engineers,
supervisors, foreman and workers are aware of this method statement and all
the resources like manpower, material and equipment’s are available to carry out
the work as planned and without any delay.
 The Site Engineer is responsible to carry out the work as per the approved
drawings, method statement, and approved materials.

6. MATERIAL STORAGE:
 All material while unloading shall not be dropped, but slowly lowered to the
ground level to ensure no damage to edges and surfaces.
 The NOVEC Cylinders & Accessories shall be placed /stored in a closed
room/enclosure & shall not be exposed prior to installation.
 The NOVEC pipes & fittings shall be protected against physical damages and shall
be stored in the store prior to fabrication.

8. PREPARATION OF WORKS:

 Ensure that drawings used for installation are approved & coordinated with other
services.
 Ensure that approved materials are available at site.
 The work place shall be clean and safe to proceed with the installation.
 Check and ensure sufficient clearance around pipe work before installing pipes, if
not so rectify accordingly.
 The pipes fabrication must be carried out by competent personnel with good
workmanship & in accordance with good industry practice.
 Preparation for on-site fabrication of NOVEC piping (cutting, threading, grooving,
etc...) All relevant tools and equipment shall be available.

9. INSTALLATION:

9.1.Mechanical
 All pipe work shall be fabricated as per approved drawings and material
submittal.
 The steel pipes of approved type quality and thickness with the size of 2 inches
(50 mm) and below are cut as required and threaded using the threading
machine.
 The steel pipes of approved type quality and thickness with the size of 2-1/2
inches (65 mm) and above are cut as required and Grooved using the grooving
Machine.
 Pipes anchors & supports structure locations shall be marked on ceiling prior to
their installation in order to check for any obstruction.
 Fix the pipes supports & anchors at the appropriate location.
 Ensure that base plates & angle bars structures are installed in proper conditions
in order to avoid pipes swinging during discharge.
 Ensure that all fittings, elbows, tees, end cap, etc... are fitted well and installed
as per approved drawings.
 Pipes & fittings shall be touched-up painted after finishing the installation stage,
when all pipes shall be painted at the workshop prior to fabrication and
installation.
 Ensure that the NOVEC discharge Nozzles are installed in their locations as per
approved P/N & approved drawings.
 Inspection request IR’s will be raised for consultant inspection of NOVEC Pipes
installation.

9.2.Electrical
 All conduit works shall be fabricated as per approved drawings and material
submittal.
 The RIGID conduit of approved type quality and thickness with the size of ¾ and
1 inch (20 & 25 mm) are cut as required and threaded using the threading
machine.
 Fire Alarm Call Point has always the priority over lighting switch to be fixed closer
the door.

 Conduits and fitting are flexible to be modified as per site conditions, however
detectors, bells and call points have to be installed as per the approved drawings
where technically distribution of system materials is based on NFPA 72.
 Inspection request IR’s will be raised for consultant inspection of conduit & cable
installation.
 Inspection request IR’s will be raised for consultant inspection of system testing

10.INSPECTION:

 The material received at site shall be inspected by the consultant prior to


commencement of work and the same should be recorded in material inspection
request (MIR).
 The installation will be inspected by consultant to their satisfaction and recorded
in inspection request (IR).
 Pneumatic test shall be performed and witnessed by the consultant and recorded
in (IR) prior to system installation (cylinders, hoses, Nozzles, etc...)
 Fire Alarm testing shall be performed and witnessed by the consultant and
recorded in (IR).

11.SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:
 All site safety rules & regulation shall be complied with project safety plan.
 All materials and tools shall be removed from place of work after completion of
work.
 Hand gloves to be used while manual handling of pipes fabrication works.
 All the tools must be in good condition.
 Any attachments like cutting discs, drill bits, etc. should be changed after
disconnecting from the power supply.

12.RECORDS:
 Inspection Request (IR) duly signed by the Client
 Installation checklist duly signed by the Client.
