3. Here are the specific rules for the Master Calculator, The 9th ARTHUR SONDAY III Cup, ,
Presidents’ Cup and debate championship :

Master Calculator
1. Each participating school/local chapter is allowed to send in one (1) team of two (2)
members in the Master Calculator.
2. Before the event the participants shall draw lots to determine their corresponding team
number.
3. The competition shall use the single elimination system. Sample schedule is provided
 below.

4. Three (3) questions shall be given for each elimination round.

5. Slate boards shall be provided to each team and the first team to raise their slate boards
and score two (2) points shall advance to the next round.
6. The elimination rounds shall cease when only three (3) or four (4) teams remain in the
contest.
7. The remaining contestants shall move to the final round and shall compete with one
another.
8. The final round shall consist of five (5) questions.
9. Teams may raise their slate boards at any time at their own risk. If a question is
interrupted by a team raising their slate board, the host will stop and ask for an answer,
without reading the remainder of the question. The first one who raised their slate boards
 first get to answer first. If the contestants who raised their calculator answer the question
incorrectly, the quiz master will continue question and the other contestants are
permitted to answer by raising their slate boards for only 5 seconds. If the answer is still
incorrect, the quiz master gives the correct answer and moves on to the next question.

10. The top three (3) contestants accumulating the highest points shall be declared as the 1st
place, 2nd place, 3rd place, respectively.

The 10th ARTHUR SONDAY III Cup

1. The 10th ARTHUR SONDAY III Cup shall consist of forty (40) questions. Twenty (20)
for easy, ten (10) for average and ten (10) for difficult. Each question has the following
equivalent point(s) – one (1) point for easy, three (3) points for average and five (5)
points for difficult. Participants will be given ten (10) seconds and sixty (60) seconds
to answer theory and problem solving questions, respectively.
2. The 10th ARTHUR SONDAY III Cup shall cover Financial Accounting & Reporting,
Advanced Accounting, Management Accounting & Control, Auditing Theory &
Problems, Business Law & Taxation, Finance & Economics, Organization &
Management, and Current Issues/Affairs.

Presidents’ Cup
1. Each quiz consists of thirty (30) questions – ten (10) each for easy, average and
difficult rounds. In case of tie, clincher questio10(s) will be drawn.
2. Each question has the following equivalent points – two (2) points for easy, three (3)
points for average and five (5) points for difficult.
3. Participants will be given ten (10) seconds and sixty (60) seconds to answer theory
and problem solving questions, respectively.

Regional Debate Competition

1. The debate competition shall use the Asian Parliamentary Format. For the rules and
regulation of this format, refer to the “RMYC Debate Competition 2018-2019.pdf”
2. Debaters are only allowed to bring with them hardcopies (maximum of 10 pages, size-
A4) of their research paper and cue cards. Gadgets are not allowed.
 3. Five (5) motions will be given a night before the match. One (1) hour before the event
the motions shall be picked by the participants and thirty (30) minutes after, the sides
shall be given.
4. English language shall be used as medium of the debate. However, to make room for
humor or for quoting familiar terms not ideally sound expressing in English, Filipino
or local dialects may be used, but this should be kept at a minimum.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. All participants must be bona fide members of the National Federation of Junior Philippine
Institute of Accountants (NFJPIA) Cagayan Valley as certified by the Regional Vice-President
for Membership and Regional Vice-President for Finance, and duly registered participants of
the Regional Midyear Convention 2018.
2. Each contestant shall be given the privilege to join a maximum of:
2.1. Three (3) individual academic competitions; and
2.2. Two (2) team academic competitions.

REQUIREMENTS
1. Each local chapter must comply with the following requirements in SOFT
COPY only:
 a. Official List of Participants
b. Duly Accomplished Application form.
c. Scanned Endorsement Letter certifying that he is the official representative of his local
chapter signed by the local chapter Vice-President for Academics and local chapter
President, noted by the local chapter Adviser. (all of the contestants in one letter may do)
d. Scanned copy of registration form from his respective school certifying that he is
currently enrolled in their school’s current semester or term
2. Requirements (b) and (d) must be in a single folder with the file name “Application Forms”
and “Registration forms”, respectively.
3. All requirements must be zipped into one file (.zip or .rar) and shall be sent to
nfjpia1819.r2vpacademics@gmail.com.The filename format shall be NFJPIA1819-
R2_SCHOOL_RMYCRAT.zip/rar

4. Walk-in contestants shall not be allowed to join the competition.

CONTEST RULES AND MECHANICS

1. Participants are advised to be at the designated place/venue fifteen (15) minutes before time
scheduled.
2. Participants must strictly wear corporate attire (no maong pants, rubber shoes, slipper,
casual wear). Failure of compliance will result to automatic disqualification.

3. Late participants are still allowed to participate; however, the participants will be
disqualified for the questions they had missed. For case study competition, late contestants
are still allowed to join the competition. However, the team shall not be given time extension
to answer the case.
4. The committee for Academics shall composed of Regional Vice President for Academics, and
Committee Members while the NFJPIA Cagayan Valley shall be composed of the Regional
Executive Officers and the Committee Members which shall serve as the monitoring
personnel and question distributors (QD).
5. The board of judges shall be composed of Certified Public Accountants for the purpose of
giving an intelligent and independent decision.
6. Any member of the board of judges and the CVRFJPIA regional council shall be vested with
the power to give sanction to any contestant he/she had witnessed violating any of the said
provision in this IRR.
7. The board of judges shall have the sole and exclusive authority to clear or answer any
protest/clarification made by the contestant or the respective adviser. The board’s decision
is final and irrevocable.
8. The local chapter is privileged to have one (1) registered coach only per competition. The
coach must register and sign in the provided registration sheet by the Standing Committee
for Academics during the registration on the first day of the Annual Regional Convention
or before the start of competition. Once the quizmaster starts reading the first question in
the easy sub-set round, the registration for local chapter coach will be closed.
9. The contestant and the registered adviser are the only persons who has vested rights to raise
protest and clarification.
10. Contestants are provided with a copy of the question for every item except for the General
Information Quiz Bowl and Bible Quiz bow which shall be flashed using the LCD projector.
The moment the quizmaster announces the question number that is the only time the
contestant may read and answer the provided question. Any contestant who violates the
said provision for the second time shall be given sanction of accumulating only 50% of
his total score garnered in all rounds. Violation of this provision for the third time shall
mean disqualification of the contestant.
11. All theory questions and problems requiring computation will be read once.
12. The contestants are allowed to manipulate their calculator ONLY when the quizmaster says
“GO!” Any contestant who violates the said provision for the first time shall be given a
warning; for the second time shall be given sanction of accumulating only 50% of his total
score garnered in all rounds. Violation of for the third time shall mean disqualification of the
contestant.
13. Abbreviations are highly discouraged to be used.
14. Contestants who shall insist in writing the answers ambiguously, abbreviated or illegibly
may still claim points for correct answers only upon the discretion of the board of judges or
the Regional Vice-President for Academics.
15. Before proceeding to the next question, there will be an allotted time of five (5) seconds for
the contestants to decide whether they want to raise a protest/clarification, to request for
new marker, pen or scratch paper, to change their calculator if it encounters a technical
 problem, or other concerns. After the allotted time has elapsed and the quizmaster starts
reading the next question, no more protest, clarification, or concern will be entertained.
Contestants should not erase their answers during the five-second time allotment to still
validate their answers when protests/clarifications are raised for that particular question.
16. In case where a question was voided upon the recommendation of the Board of Judges or by
the Academic Committee, another question shall be asked coming from the clincher questions
to replace the voided question.
17. Any contestant caught cheating is considered disqualified in the competition.
18. In case of a tie at the end of a round, tie breaker questions shall be asked until the deadlock is
broken. The questions are read twice by the quiz masters. Tie breaker question/s shall have
NO bearing on the cumulative score of the contestants. Whoever gets the right answer
and raises his answer board first shall advance to the next round or otherwise be declared
the winner.
19. After reading the contest rules and mechanics, contestants are given the chance to raise
question/clarification regarding the said rules and mechanics.
20. In case of any concern, clarification, or protest which is not governed by the Implementing
Rules and Regulations (IRR), the RVP-Academics shall have the absolute power to decide,
upon consultation with the board of judges and/or the Regional Adviser for Academics,
on matters which he deems necessary to preserve and protect the integrity of the event. His
decision is final and irrevocable.

REGIONAL TOURNAMENT QUIZZES

1. Regional accounting and non-accounting tournament quizzes shall be comprised of three
(3) rounds (except for the cups that have their own separate IRRs above) namely: Easy,
Average and Difficult. In case of a tie after the difficult round; clincher questions shall be
given to the contestants until the deadlock is broken.

2. The Board of Judges or the Regional Vice President for Academics may extend time
prescribed depending on the complexity of the question.
3. The top three (3) contestants accumulating the highest points shall be declared as the 1st
place, 2nd place, 3rd place, respectively.
