Looking Forward Plan 2

Abstract

This Looking Forward Paper will cover the goals I want to accomplish over the next 5

years of teaching. The plan includes finishing up requirements of my ARL program and taking

trainings to improve myself as an educator. The plan includes using these trainings to take a

leadership role within my school through committees such as RTI (Response to Intervention) and

BIT (Behavior Intervention). My plan also includes how I will use these trainings to assist other

incoming teachers.
Looking Forward Plan 3

As far as a plan for looking forward to my future as an educator there are many things, I

want to get done within the next 5 years. As I approach my fifth year of being inside a third-

grade classroom, I look back on the past 5 years and I am close to completing the goals I had as I

started out as a new teacher. Beginning as a teacher my main focus was classroom management

and working closely with veteran teachers on how to manage my classroom. Constantino states

“It is obvious that effective classroom management impacts all teaching performance.

(Costantino & De Lorenzo, 2009, p. 47).” Looking forward to the next 5 years I want become the

veteran teacher taking various leadership opportunities to help the next wave of incoming

teachers.

In 2015 I entered CCSD in Las Vegas, Nevada through the ARL program. Since I entered

through ARL I was placed on a probationary status and had certain requirements on me that I

needed to complete before I’m given a standard teaching license. Currently I have completed

most through the master’s program offered by National University. Since then I have also

managed my way into becoming the grade level chair of my grade.

Within the next year I plan to be over my status of being a probationary teacher by

completing the Masters of Education program and passing my Praxis (5019) exam. Upon

completion of this Capstone course I will begin my student teaching course in preparation for

graduation in May.

In 2019 my school will be sending me to a 2-day training offered by QTEL (Quality

Teaching for English Learners. The Website states that the training will provide me with “the

tools needed to accelerate language development, academic literacy, and disciplinary knowledge

of all students, particularly English learners.” This training will be very beneficial because most

of the students our school serves are English language learners.

Looking Forward Plan 4

In 2020 I want to continue as the grade level chair for Third grade at my school. I want to

use what I have learned in my past trainings and my experience to help new incoming teacher’s

primary through helping with classroom management. Classroom management I feel is the most

import aspect to grasp as a new teacher. By 2020 I want to be able to run a professional

development opportunity at my school for teachers using the program ClassDojo. ClassDojo is a

classroom behavior and communication app that helps teachers manage students while being

able to quickly and effectively communicate with parents outside of school. I also plan to take

interest having a student teacher work in my classroom.

By 2021 I want to be able to lead a committee such as BIT (Behavior Intervention) and

RTI (Response to Intervention). Within one of these teams I want to be able to meet regularly

with staff to establish protocols with how we deal with students who may be causing classroom

disturbances or require additional support. I want to be able to lead a team in developing a

success plan for any student. It can include disability support, treatment requirements, or

academic assistance. For the students that are English Language Learners I plan to become

TESOL certified.

By 2022 I want to be seen as a mentor teacher to the staff at my school. I also want to

plan to take course involving improving my ability to use online resources such as Google

Classroom, Quizizz, Kahoot, or Curriculum Engine. Overall, I just want to become an educator

that is respected inside and outside the classroom. I want to take my knowledge and give it to

both my students and fellow teachers.
