STEP Standard 3 - Assessment and Data Literacy

Pre-Assessment - Copy and paste the pre-assessment you plan to use to assess the students’
knowledge of the topic prior to implementing the unit lessons. Include the scoring criteria used
to determine whether the student Exceeds, Meets, Approaches, or Falls Far Below the learning
goal and measurable objectives.
Copy and paste, or insert a picture of the pre-assessment.
Pre-Assessment Data: Whole Class - Once you have assessed your students’ knowledge on the topic,
collect and analyze the pre-assessment data to determine if you will need to modify the standards,
learning goal, or measurable objectives that will be addressed during instruction.

Number of Students

Exceeds 0

Meets 0

Approaches 1

Falls Far Below 22

Pre-Assessment Analysis: Whole Class

Based on the information above I would not change any of the standards, learning goal or
objective. Instead I will work hard to show them effective strategies that will allow them to
complete their goal successfully.
Based on the information above I really have to work hard towards my planning, now that I have
a general idea of what the students know I can plan to refresh their memory by working on
subtraction problems and how to work with a number line. Once this has been covered then I can
begin to introduce a new strategy.
Delivery is going to have to be direct and clear so that they don’t mistake subtraction for
multiplication as they did in the paper. During delivery I will involve all students and check their
understanding by asking them questions such as “What sign is used to subtract? What does
subtract mean? Does it mean to take away or to add?
Since the students did so poorly in the pre-assessment, I will use the same test for the Post-
assessment to make sure that they fully understand what they are supposed to do. As I mentioned
above, I will not be changing the standard as it is a standard that needs to be covered and it is
required by the state of Texas. Everything that is in this test will be covered during instructions
so that the students can break apart the number in the ones place to subtract and use the number
line provided.

Post-Assessment – Copy and paste the post-assessment you plan to use to assess the students’ knowledge
of the topic after implementing the unit lessons. The post-assessment can be the same as the pre-
assessment, a modified version, or something comparable that measures the same concepts. Include the
scoring criteria used to determine whether the student Exceeds, Meets, Approaches, or Falls Far Below the
learning goal and measurable objectives.
Students will have the same assessment with 13 questions, students must score a 70 or above in order to
pass, this means that they can only miss 3 questions before they fail. I believe that by teaching a new
strategy on breaking down numbers they will be on meets or exceeds expectations.
Copy and paste, or insert a picture of the post-assessment.
