The prepositions Reflection

Select (S):

Identify a lesson and what standards are you addressing

The lesson has about prepositions to use directional words to explain where an item is located. In
addition, I used Pre-listening for students by introduce for them vocabulary words with doing
for them actions. Also, students should be able to use different objects with shapes bean bags
to do the actions for prepositions vocabulary words. Although, students will learn prepositions
words by using different pictures.

Describe (D):

Who is the lesson for? The lesson for grade 3 boys and girls it was 23 students.

Where did the lesson take place? It was in the English, science classroom. In addition, when I start
the lesson I let students sit on the carpet then for the activity they should be in their groups its
depend on their levels after that in closing they sit in the carpet to reviewing with them by
teacher ask them questions and let students to do the actions, to evaluate them and I give them
exit ticket to let them review the lesson and make sure they understand the lesson objective.
What were you trying to achieve in your lesson?

I try to achieve the management of classroom by using class dojo and timer to be the lesson
organizes. Also, arrive the information for students by easy way to use for them objects like box
bean bag shapes and pictures.
What did the students do?

They were attentive and focused during play Simon game. Also, they focused when I show them
the pictures of prepositions about where is the monkey and they are enthusiastic to see
different pictures to know the prepositions words and to find where the monkey is. And in the
center activities, students are excited to do their tasks because I prepare for them different
materials such as, puzzle pictures, white boards and flash cards that they like to use it. And
when the time is finished they sit on the carpet to evaluate them I let students to come in front
and I give them box and bean bag and I tell her ‘pot the bag in the box’. Also, I used exit ticket
with different questions to check if they understand.

Analyze (A):

Why do you think the students responded the way that they did?

I feel students respond the lesson because of they enjoyable in warmer and during the activity
they help each other. In addition, learners are enthusiastic when I bring different students to
come in front of class to do the actions for example I tell students pot the bag under the box by
using box and bean bag. And I believe all students felt like they could find the difference and
understand the meaning of the prepositions words because I translate the vocabulary in Arabic
to help them understand.
How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?

In grade two, the students learned about prepositions. I connected the prepositions
vocabulary words by acting by doing for them I bring bean bag and box to explain
for them. Also I connected the prepositions vocabulary words by using pictures of
where is the monkey I found that this was effective, because the students were
able to use the vocabulary.
How well did you engage the students?

The students were engaged when they do in the beginning of class warmer activity, I let
students to take bean bags to do the actions. According to Tristan “Use Movement to Get Kids
Focused” (Tristan, 2009). Also the students are interesting and focused when I show them pictures of
where is the monkey. And I brig students in front in the carpet and I ask them questions about where
is the monkey. And students are engaging because they used hand on activities. In future, I will
engage the learners by letting them work in pairs for example student A tell students B pot the
bag in your pocket and students B do the action.

Appraise (A):

Explain the nature of the experience from the students’ perspective

Did your lesson meet your teaching goals?

I differentiated the activities by academic level. I found that the activities were appropriate for
each level because I make a search to know new ideas of activities and My MCT helped me by
giving me what I need to make for each level and I should to include for each activity writing
because its English lesson, although I had to support the low level students by translate for them
preposition words in Arabic to make sure they are understand. In addition, the differentiation
very important for each lesson because its help me and students to learn better. And I feel the
high they doing puzzle activity and middle students showed independence by trying to work
through the activities on pairs, and the low levels students were not able to work independently
to write sentences.
Transform (T):

How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future?

Bloom’s taxonomy helps enhance the students for example thinking when I ask them question
in the begging of the lesson to see the picture to find where the monkey is and to tell us the
answers for preposition vocabulary words. Also at the end of the lesson I give them exit ticket
each student have a question to circle the pictures that shows (behind – next to – on). In future I
need to improve my language for them when I display for them and when we have
conversations about the lessons. Also, I will give them more time when I let them turn and talk
to give them opportunity to discuss and they express their opinion to give my write answers for
preposition words when I ask them questions. And I personally need to manage the special
need students behavior by tell them the rules of classroom.
What are the implications for your professional practice?

During the lesson I could use formative assessment which is Fist to Three:
Additionally, might try the fist to three during a lesson. Teachers can ask students to hold up a 1, 2, or 3
with their fingers based on their understanding of the material. Students hold up a 1 if they don't
understand at all, a 2 if they think they understand, and a 3 if they're confident that they understand the
lesson.
