● What is a push factor?
● What is a pull factor?
● Why do people migrate? Identify environmental, economic, cultural, political, and social
reasons.

2. Instructional Objectives
● Students will be able to correctly identify a pull factor.
● Students will be able to correctly identify a push factor.
● Students will be able to identify environmental, economic, cultural, political, and social
reasons for why people migrate.

to human identities and cultures
2. Explain how push pull factors contribute to human migration patterns and evaluate the
impact of migration on the use of resources and provision of services (refugees and

6. Instructional Procedures
Introduction
1. Activate background knowledge on prior lesson about why people move due to war.
Give other examples on why people move- religious freedoms, more job opportunities,
better education, etc.

Developmental
2. Students will watch YouTube video on push/pull factors and reasons for migration:

a. Students will take notes during video. Teacher will stop and discuss topics
throughout the video and expand on the topics.
3. After video: Class discussion on Push/Pull factors: Why do people migrate? Do you
know anyone who has moved from a different country? Why did they want to move to a
different country? Have you heard of refugees? Why are they leaving their country?
War? Terrorism? For a better life? Being forced out or captured and killed? There are
many reasons why people migrate.
a. Environmental – Better climate, calamities, and natural disasters are examples of
environmental causes or reasons.
b. Economic – Moving to find work or moving to follow a particular career path is an
example of economic cause or reason.
c. Cultural – Religious freedom and education is an example of cultural cause or
reason.
d. Political – Civil war or escaping from political persecution is an example of
political cause or reason.
e. Social – Moving for a better quality of life or moving closer to a family member or
friend is an example of a social cause or reason.
Conclusion
3. After class discussion, students will go home and interview their parents about push/pull
factors and how they or their ancestors ended up in Georgia.

7. Addressing Learners’ Diverse Needs
● Lesson plan was adapted to meet grade level for students
● Students can use some of their residual hearing with hearing aids & cochlear implants but
benefits greatly by having abstract concepts explained in ASL
● FM system used to amplify spoken language
● Students who need additional support will have access to 1-on-1 instruction review with
parapro.
