Luca Barcellona
Lebt und arbeitet in Mailand, Italien.
Luca Barcellona ist 34 Jahre alt und führt ein eigenes Studio in Mailand, wo er als
Freelance Grafikdesigner und Kalligraph arbeitet. Buchstaben sind der Hauptbe-
standteil seiner Kreationen. Zudem unterrichtet er Kalligraphie mit der Associazione
Calligrafica Italiana und gibt Workshops in ganz Europa. Die Absicht seiner Arbeit
besteht darin, die Fähigkeiten der antiken Schriftkunst und Sprache mit den Werkzeu-
gen der digitalen Epoche zu vereinen. 2003 gründete er mit Rae Martini und Marco
Klefisch das Kollektiv „Rebel Ink“ und gemeinsam riefen sie eine „Live-Ausstellung“ 
über Kalligraphie, Writing und Illustration“ ins Leben. 2009 arbeitete er mit dem Kalli-
graphen Peter Schaffel, um im Auftrag des Schweizer Landesmuseum in Zürich den
großen Globus von 1569  mithilfe der Originalmaterialien(Feder und Tinte) zu reprodu-
zieren. Viele Brands haben seine Schriften verwendet, unter anderem Carhartt, Nike,
Mondador, Zoo York, Dolce& Gabbana, Sony BMG, Seat, Vlvo, Universal, Eni.

Seine aktuellen Ausstellungen umfassen unter anderem die „Oscuro Scrutare“ in der
Patricia Armocida Galerie, Mailand, das Projekt „Some Type of Wonderful“ in Mel-
bourne/Sydney und „Don´t Believe the Type“ in Den Haag. Neben der Teilnahme an
verschiedenen Projekten wurden seine Arbeiten auch in vielen Medien publiziert: Die
neuesten Erscheinungen waren im amerikanischen Magazin „Letter Arts Review“,in
der Ausgabe „ Applied Calligraphy und Grafic Design“ von Marco Campedelli und
in den Büchern „Playful Type 2“, „Los Logos 5“ und „Arabesque 2“ publiziert vom
Gestalten Verlag.
2010 hat er sein eingenes Mode Label „Luca Barcelona Gold Series“ gegründet. Vor
kurzem veröffentlichte er sein erstes Buch „Take Your Pleasure Seriously“, Lazy Dog
Press, ein Verlagshaus, bei dem er selbst Mitlgied ist. Seine intensive Auseinander-
setzung mit Graffiti führte ihn zur klassischen Kalligraphie bis hin zu grossen Wandbil-
dern, Typographie und Buchdruck.
