Analysing Food Choices Assignment

To assess your knowledge in relation to the ‘Basic Nutrition’ unit in your HPE workbook, you
are going to analyse popular diets by performing the following task:

Research and critically analyse a ‘Fad Diet’ or ‘Alternative Diet.’ Then answer
questions in relation to basic nutritional requirements for positive physical
development.

Choose one of the following Fad Diets:

 Grapefruit Diet
 The five-bite diet
 5/2 Diet
 The Baby Food Diet
 The Paleo diet

Or research a diet of your own that you are interested in but check with your teacher first.
Then answer the following questions.

1. What is the definition of a ‘Fad Diet’?

2. Summarise the key components of your specific ‘Fad Diet.’

3. Refer to the AGHE and Australian Healthy Eating Pyramid. What food sources are
missing from the diet and how could this affect your body and its development?

4. Discuss the diet’s impact on mental and physical health.

Your assignment should be a presented in a multimedia format and submitted via Learning
Tasks. You will find a rubric on the opposite side of this sheet, detailing how marks will be
allocated for this assessment task.
