Friday September 6th Lesson Plan

Pre-class:

Write on board the page we are starting with and theme of unit.

Collect take home test as they come in.

Warm-up (10-15 minutes):

Introduce the topic/theme of the chapter as being about housing and living costs.

Read: The High Cost of Housing pg. 66. Be sure to ask comprehension questions (as well as
elicit and build on previous knowledge) such as: Is rent high in your home country?; What about
here?; are you able to save some money in case you get sick? Etc.

Introduce singular and plural nouns (15 minutes):

Review chart on pg 67 and inform students of regular and irregular nouns explaining the
concept of singular and plural.

Introduce all of the different spelling rules as well as the exceptions (make pronunciation notes
as you go so you don’t have to spend a lot of time on it in 3.3). Provide chances for them to try
and use the rule for each one as we go. REMEMBER: Don’t just read the chart, write examples
of each one on the board.

Do exercise 2, questions 1-6 will be completed together, then have them pair up to complete 7-
24 (10 minutes).

Introduce irregular plural nouns (15 minutes):

Review chart 3.4 stating that you just have to remember these. Write examples on board not
just say them out loud.
