“Introduction”
Frontier Foundation (Blood Transfusion Services) is a non- profit charitable &
welfare organization established in the year 2003 and registered under the social
welfare society & control ordinance of 1961 with social welfare department KP
and HCC.

Frontier Foundation is providing free of charge Blood/components transfusion


services to more than 3000 patients of Thalassemia, Hemophilia and Blood cancer
at Peshawar Kohat and Swat branches.

“Executive Summary”
Frontier Foundation was established for the provision of Blood Transfusion
services to the patients primarily children who are suffering from fatal hereditary
blood disorders namely Thalassemia & Hemophilia. Patients Suffering from other
blood disorders like Anemia and Blood Cancer are also being served.

FF provides services to the disadvantaged children and patients free of cost with
out discrimination of race, color, religion and ethnic orientation.

FF perform welfare activities through three branches which are located in Kohat,
Swat and Peshawar. More than 3000 Thalassemia and Hemophilia patients are
registered in these three centers.

Besides providing blood FF has the facility to provide blood products like RBC
concentrates, FFP (Plasma) & Platelets.
“Vision/Mission”
To provide safe and screened blood/components transfusion services and Iron
chelation therapy to patients of Thalassemia & Hemophilia.

Thalassemia Awareness and Extended family screening for the prevention of new
cases of Thalassemia.

Awareness and promotion of voluntary unpaid blood donations.

“Objective”
Provision of safe and screened blood/components to Thalassemia, Hemophilia and
blood cancer patients

To promote awareness and counseling services on hereditary blood disorders,


sexually transmitted diseases and reproductive health.

To promote voluntary non-remunerated blood donations to fulfill the blood


requirement of needy people.

“Medical Sections”
“Laboratory”
The process consists of collection of blood from the
donors and transfusion to the patients after screening
the blood to ensure that it is free from infectious
diseases like Hepatitis B, C, HIV/Aids, Syphilis & Malaria.

Blood is separated into components i.e. PRBC, FFP,


Platelets and CP.

“Consultant Room”
A consultant(Medical Doctor) is available for patient’s
checkup & genetic counseling.

Thalassemia patient’s registration, investigation and iron-


chelation therapy record is maintained by the consultant.
“Thalassemia Ward”
The process of blood transfusion is done under the
supervision of doctors and nurses. In Thalassemia ward
all the database of Thalassemia and hemophilia patients
is maintained.

Food and accommodation is also provided to the patients and their attendants.

“Hemophilia Ward”
Patients with hemophilia (Bleeding disorder) are admitted in this ward. Hemophilia
patient’s bleeding and swelling of joints is treated by Factor’s concentrate injections
or FFP/CP transfusion.

Genetic counseling with hemophilia families is also done.

“BDS Room”
Voluntary blood donors donate blood in this section
after medical checkup.

The database of blood donors (registration no. Blood


group, contact details) is maintained in BDS room.

“Activities”
“Awareness Programs”
FF organized awareness programs with the expertise
professionals who conduct workshops and seminar on
hereditary blood disorders,
safe blood transfusion
methodology and infections
through blood transfusion.
such seminars are also
instrumental in ensuring
community participation in
blood donation campaign.
“Blood collection Campaigns
FF organizes blood collection campaigns to
fulfill the blood need of Thalassemia and
hemophilia patients. Our 4 teams perform
these activities in whole KP and FATA. In
these campaigns FF teams are always trying
to save every single drop of blood and transfer
this blood to needy and deserving patients.

After collection the blood is screened for


Hep B, C, HIV, VDRL and Malaria.

“Relief Programs During Disasters”


FF has been at forefront in their relief activities for the people affected by natural
calamites. The organization timely response to the affected population with all the
available resources saved numerous lives during the worst flooding and
earthquakes in the history of Pakistan. The foundation provided food, medicines,
vaccines, shelters and other necessities to conflicts.

“Free Medical Camps”


Frontier Foundation conducts free medical camps in the remote areas of KP and
FATA to provide health services at the door steps of the poor and needy patients
who can not afford to go to the hospitals in main cities.

Free medicines, test facilities and medical checkup by proper doctors is provided
during FMC.

“Achievements”
Established three hospitals in Peshawar, Kohat and Swat.

Registered more than 3000 children all branches.

Provided 191318 bags of blood and blood products to the children in all branches.

Provided 28026 bags of blood and blood products to the children in all branches.

Collected and screened the blood of 166656 persons during the past 13 years.

During screening 2294 cases of Hepatitis B, 1279 cases of Hepatitis C and 18 Cases
of HIV were detected.

Reached 5000 parents to raise awareness among them about Blood disorders
and its prevention.

“Future Planning”
Frontier Foundation with its decade long experience and capabilities based on its
performance is looking forward to expand its humanitarian efforts in KP an FATA.
This expansion of services includes:

State of the Art blood Transfusion center at provincial level.

Thalassemia screening unit.

HIV/AIDS counseling.

Primary and reproductive Health Care facilities including Family Planning and
Mother child care.

Burn center and maternity Home.

Poverty alleviation programs especially discouraging child labor.
