 Differentiates between equations and inequalities.
 Recall the properties of equality.

 TOPIC: Differentiating Between Equations and Inequalities and Illustrating
linear Equations and Inequalities in one variable.

III. PROCEDURE

a. Preparatory Activity
“Good Morning Class.” “Good Morning Miss Aban.”

“Let us pray…” (Students will lead the prayer)

“A sheet of paper will be passed, write your


name on it so that I will know that you are
present.” (Students will follow the instruction in writing
their names in the paper for attendance purpose.)

“Before taking your seats, please pick up any


pieces of paper under your chairs, if there is
any.” (Students will follow the instruction of the
teacher.)
b. Review of the Previews Lesson
“Last meeting our discussion was all about
translating mathematical phrases to verbal
phrases and vice versa.” (Students are attentive to the teacher)

“What have you learned from the topic that


we had?”
“Ma’am, we have learned that we need to
translate it by the meaning of the sentences given
the following operation indicated in the given
phrase.”
“Okay, very well! You should take note with
those operations that are indicated to every
phrase that is given.”

c. Motivation
“In a Mathematical Sentence “2 increased by
4 is 6”, is the mathematical phrase true or
false?” “True Ma’am, because 2+4=6”

“Okay very good!” “How about 15 decreased


by 4 is 10?” “Ma’am it is false because 15-4≠10 but is equal to
11.”
“How about 2 more than x is 8, is it true or
false? “Ma’am, it is neither true of false because we can
have different values of x to make it true or false.”
“Very well said! So these mathematical
sentence can only be true or false depending
on the value of x that is substituted. Such a
mathematical sentence is called an Open
Sentence.” (Students are attentive to the teacher)

“Do you follow?” “Yes Ma’am.”

“Tell me whether it is an open sentence or


not.”

Directions: Select which elements in set D= {0,
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9} will make the following
sentences true.

“To find the solution, we use the properties of


equality to solve first degree equation, also
known as linear equation.” (Students are attentive to the teacher)

d. Lesson Proper
“There are two Properties of Equality. First
one is the (APE) Addition Property of
Equality. Okay please read the definition.” “(APE) Addition Property of Equality: if a, b, c
are real numbers and a=b then ac=bc.”
Example:
Solve for the following linear equations:
1. X+7=4
“To solve this equation, we combine first
similar terms by using APE.” “Yes Ma’am.”

“x+7=4 is the given, by adding -7, the additive


inverse of 7, to both sides of the equation it
will then be?” x+ 7 + (-7)= 4 + (-7)
“Very good!”

“Thus, what is now the solution of the


equation?”
