LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. Apply the order of operations to problems without technology
2. Recognize BEDMAS and how to use it to solve number problems
PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
• When students enter, they will answer the following question on their whiteboards: 8 min
7+6/2-(1+(4-2))*2= 4
• Use this question to explain to students what nested brackets are. This is not a
concept they will be evaluated on, but it may come up in future activities. The
brackets inside the bigger brackets are what you do first.
• Teacher will ask for a student to demonstrate the answer to the problem
Body Time
Worksheet 1) Have the students work on the worksheet from yesterday for 10 10
minutes. If they do not finish in time have them complete it for min
homework.
2) If students are finished already, have them work on IXL M.3
BEDMAS 1) Tell students that when they get their bingo sheet they will: 30
Bingo • Label one space as free space min
• Label all other spaces with a number within the number ranges
beneath each letter
2) Explain that the teacher will pick an equation from the bowl and
write it on the whiteboard
3) Students will answer the equation on their whiteboards (they can
talk to elbow buddies) and then the teacher will pick a student to
say the answer, if a student has the answer, they can check off that
box
4) First student to check off a full line wins (first 3 winners get a prize)
Solve and 1) Students will have the worksheet with various expressions on it. 10
Draw There will be two descriptors under each expression. Students will min
read the descriptors and check it off if it applies to the expression.
The descriptor will then tell them to draw something on the picture
above.
2) Also have students solve the expression, and provide the answers to
the expressions to the students.
3) Provide the answer keys to the drawings and the solved expressions
for students to check their work.
4) Make sure to explain to students that the dot symbol is the same as
multiplying.
5) By the time BINGO is done, there may not be time for this activity, if
so, move it to the next day.
The order of 1) If students finish solve and draw early, they can work on the
operations following game on a Chromebook
