Reflection Paper 3

August 28-29, 2019

On August 28, 2018 we went back to Rizal with an aim to pick a family, a family in which we
needed to adopt or interview. Once we got there, the seniors immediately set up the health center
however we readied the boots in which we will use to walk along the shallow muddy paths that
the residents use in order to reach them. We had difficulty in walking because of the challenge of
keeping our balance with the slippery, and sometimes ankle deep, mud would either trap us, slip
us or both. Once we got to the area, we were immediately greeted by the residents with a warm
smile. The area wasn’t particularly clean even with the greenery of the landscape; I saw no
means of proper waste disposal. Houses appeared weak in stability and may be torn apart by a
storm. We walked to the end of the line of houses, while the other half group was able to find a
suitable family. Me and Danela were unfortunately rejected three times before we were able to
meet mr. Cornelio Fernandez. He had a broken foot, and possible ankle, with noticeable
swelling. We explained their rights with the interview as well with the procedures. He accepted it
willingly. I was not particularly surprised with most of the answers but I was surprised with the
fact that he is a low salience with their waste disposal, their food rations, clean supply of water
among other things. He was particularly concerned with pests though. Once finished we went
back to the health center and went back to TUA.

On August 29, 2018 we went back to the immunization center. I was more confident than before.
Unlike the first time which I was too excited to sleep on the bus lol. Our group easily arranged
ourselves with designated responsibilities; Recording, assisting, weighing and immunizing. The
group was able to function somewhat in a more efficient way; as I did as well. We had a total of
about 36-ish patients for immunization. We were able to aspirate the vaccines which would help
us in the future for administering vaccines. I was able to give a lot of immunizations which gave
me the confidence to hold a needle with lessened shaking. Once we were done we waited for the
bus to come around and pick us up. T’was a fun day.
