1. GENERAL

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Nepal is one of the Landlocked sovereign state of Asia with tremendous geographic diversity
bordered with People's Republic of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region in the North, and
Republic of India in the remaining three sides. It lies on the lap of white snow of Himalayan
mountain range. The country has a rugged terrain and topography of middle and high mountain
in the north and fertile flat Terai area suitable for cultivation in the south bordering India.

The roads in Nepal are undergoing the widening and in maintenance process so driving in the
roads of Nepal currently might cause some inconvenience to the travelers. We hope the widening
and maintenance process would be completed very soon and the driving in the Nepal would
become a fun for the travelers.

Nepal Road Standards – 2027(Second Revision 2070), in short called NRS – 2070, shall apply to
all Strategic Roads in rural areas being constructed within Nepal. For non-strategic (Local
Roads) and urban roads separate standards shall be considered.

1.2 SURVEY DISCRIPTION


The Survey is based on the Kathmandu – Terai/Madhesh Fast Track (Expressway) Road Project.
Construction survey was carried out from CH 66+300 to CH 75+300.
Basically the survey is done to establish the new TBM stations in place of Previous missing
TBM. Most of the TBM are plugged out during construction or excavation and some of them are
beyond the alignment (far from the road edge). New TBM stations are established in place of
missing one and the TBMs far from the alignment are re-established near the alignment for
layout.

I. Field Description
The Survey was done from CH 66+300 to 71+850. At most of the portion earthwork has
been carried due to which many TBM station were plugged out. Whole survey work is
accomplished in Plan area since the working chainage lies in Terai area.

1.4 PROJECT LOCATION


The construction survey was done at Bara district Central Development Region, Physically at
the end of the fast track.

2. OBJECTIVE OF THE SURVEY


The main objectives of the survey are to:
a) Establish the missing TBM positions.
b) Establish new TBM near the alignment.
c) Develop the layout.
d) Meet the Design Parameters.
e) Prepare the quantity
f) Draw the cross-section and Profile to find the quantity of work done.
g) Take the precaution on the existing Coordinates.

3. THE FIELD SURVEY

b. SOFTWARE
Topcon Link Receiver utility was used for the download of the raw data from the
receivers. Magnet Tools was used for the post processing and adjustment of the raw data.
AUTOCAD 2007 and SW_DTW are also used to draw the cross-section and Profile to
find out the quantity of work done.

4. METHODOLOG

Several Concrete pillars are installed at the required stations. There are 38 concrete Pillar
at respective TBM stations.
