CONTROLLING TEXT PRESENTATION USING YOUR VOICE
INTRODUCTION
An Action is a voice command for modifying text. You can use Actions to
select and correct text, delete it, enclose it in punctuation, change its
capitalization rules, and much more. Thanks to Actions, you can control all
aspects of text presentation with your voice so that you do not have to use
the keyboard and mouse!
SpeechToText Pro offers 45 Actions. To see the full listing, click the
Actions button and click on the Actions List expandable dropdown. Actions
are grouped by similarity, under category titles in bold, red letters. To learn
more about a specific item in the dropdown, hover your mouse over it or
press it gently on a touch screen. This will cause a tooltip with helpful
information on the Action, to pop into view.
To put an Action into use, say it in the beginning of your spoken statement
and follow it with the words you want it to act upon. If the words exist in
your content, the last occurrence of those words in your content will be
affected. If they don’t exist, they will be appended to your content,
modified by the Action.
Begin by clicking the Speak button, near the lower left corner, and say
verbatim “Every day in every way comma things are getting better comma
better and better full stop”. This will produce…
Every day in every way, things are getting better, better and better.
SELECTION
Selection is important because through selection, text can be identified for
correction or modification. The selection-related Actions in SpeechToText
Pro permit for unrestricted flexibility. It is easy to select words, phrases,
sentences, segments of words, or individual characters. Be sure to say the
statements within the double quotes, to familiarize yourself with
SpeechToText Pro’s Actions…

RICH TEXT
The ‘Rich Text’ Action voice commands wear HTML-like tags around text to
make it suitable for Rich Text viewing, saving and printing.
<h2>Of Time</h2>
Say “Now I am going to produce some filler text for illustration purposes
full stop” to produce…
Now move the switch at the top middle of the Editor from the Plain Text
position to the Rich Text one.
If you click the RTF Save button, your content will save as an RTF file which
is a type of format that can be opened by Microsoft Word.
If you click the ‘Print or Save as PDF’ button, you will be able to either send
your content to a printer or save it as a PDF file.
Tip: It is recommended to leave RTF formatting (that is, using the ‘Rich
Text’ Actions) as the last task. The best practice is to produce content in
Text mode, or import it from an external text file using the Open button,
and then add formatting to that text through the use of ‘Rich Text’ Action
voice commands.
FINAL WORD
SpeechToText Pro offers 45 Action voice commands that empower the
user with full control over all aspects of text presentation. The full list of
Actions can be viewed by clicking the Actions button and clicking the
Actions List dropdown. Hovering over or pressing gently on an Action item
triggers a tooltip with helpful information about the Action.
Words that are not part of the vocabulary can be spelled using the 'Spell'
Action. This adds them to the vocabulary, so next time they can be
pronounced instead of spelled. If the word is difficult to pronounce, or has
non-letter characters, it can be turned into a Hotkey.
The Actions under the Casing, Punctuation, Miscellaneous and Rich Text
categories can be used on new text, existing text or selected text. The
Actions under Selection and Editing can only be used on existing text, not
new text. (New text can’t be selected or deleted.)
Although an Action has a default voice command, the user can define their
own voice commands by right-clicking or pressing down gently on an
Action. This way, the command “Select” can be replaced with "Choose".
Misinterpreted voice commands, displayed in the status bar, can be added
to the list of existing commands, to increase the accuracy of an Action.
Conversion from speech into text is never perfect. Thanks to the Actions
feature of SpeechToText Pro, not only is it possible to generate content
that is 100% accurate with ease, it is also intuitive, and hands-free.
