TEACHING EXPERIENCE
PSIII
GRADE 9 FSL, GRADE 10 FSL, & CTS (BUSINESS) COCHRANE HIGH SCHOOL –
COCHRANE, AB
This was a four-month internship. During this time, I immersed myself in the profession of
teaching as well as the school community. My responsibilities included teaching grade 9 FSL,
grade 10 FSL, and a Com. Tech. course (Business Focus). Due to the structure of the school
schedule, I had the opportunity to teach the entirety of all three courses. This was an incredible
opportunity for me to see the reality of what teaching is about, including the fabrication and
administration of a final exam. Furthermore, I was able to collaborate with my CTS Teacher
Mentor to create a new version of his Com. Tech. course. I worked throughout the semester to
design a course that would allow students to learn how to apply their current skills and interests
to a business situation.
While at Cochrane High School, I took on the role of becoming a cross country running coach. I
collaborated with two other teachers at the school to design a training plan for the team,
attended practices and zones, and assisted with the end of season athlete reports. As running is
one of my passions, this allowed to approach it from a coaching perspective as opposed to an
athlete’s perspective. It also allowed me to establish relationships with other students around
the school. In addition to this, I became involved with the leadership team at the school. I
attended their weekly meetings and assisted with wherever it was needed. I worked alongside
the teachers to ensure that events were successful and that students were given the support
they needed to succeed

PSII
GRADE 4/5 SCIENCE & GRADE 4/5 FSL FLEETWOOD BAWDEN SCHOOL –
LETHBRIDGE, AB
This was a six-week long internship. During this time, I was responsible for teaching FSL to all the
grade 4/5 class in the school, as well as teaching one class grade 5 chemistry. As this was my first
experience teaching FSL, it allowed me to grow and expand my teaching style. I was also able to
employ a teaching method that I had learned about at the University of Lethbridge, Task-Based
Learning Teaching (TBLT). Essentially, students learn how to use French in conversational
situations rather than learning distinct portions of French grammar. My teacher associate was
impressed with the method and noticed improvements in students’ ability to speak the language.
Furthermore, they requested copies of my lessons so that they could teach them in future years.
I was also successful in teaching grade 5 chemistry. As a language major, this topic was
challenging. However, I worked with my teacher associate to formulate effective lessons and
even re-teach lessons when needed. In order to re-enforce topics, I would run an experiment day
with them after each new concept learned. This allowed students to see the topics come to life.
Again, this teacher wished to save several of my lessons for the next year.
PSI
KINDERGARTEN LITERACY ST. PATRICK ELEMENTARY – TABER, AB
This was a five-week practicum. During my time at St. Patrick, I had the opportunity to teach
literacy to two different kindergarten classes. In literacy, I would explore poems and songs
related to a topic. Additionally, each week I would encourage my students to look a little deeper
into the topic being discussed. Near the end of my practicum, I also took on the students’
phonics block which left me with a higher teaching load than is required in PSI. Before my
practicum ended, I had the opportunity to see my students begin to read and make words, which
was one of the most fulfilling things for me to experience thus far. Furthermore, this practicum
allowed me to learn solidify my knowledge of classroom management. Prior to the end of the
practicum, I assisted with the school’s Christmas concert. In this position, I volunteered to
supervise students before they went on stage.

ED 2500
KINDERGARTEN NICHOLAS SHERAN COMMUNITY SCHOOL – LETHBRIDGE, AB
Ed 2500 is an observation-based course at the University of Lethbridge. In this position, I was
able to join a kindergarten classroom twice a wee for approximately 4 hours each time. My
responsibility was to observe the lesson and maintain a journal about my experience. However,
after several weeks I began teaching the students Physical Education under my teacher
associate’s supervision. One of the major learning opportunities in this practicum was the
exploration of cross-curricular opportunities available in a kindergarten classroom.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ASSISTANT TEACHER

1ERE, 2IEME, 3IEME, LYCEE-COLLEGE D’ETAT EMILE LETOURNEL – SAINT PIERRE,
FR
Prior to entering the faculty of education at the University of Lethbridge, I was hired as an English
Language Assistant at the Lycée-College D’État Emile Letournel in Saint Pierre. My responsibility
in this role was to plan and run English conversation classes for students from the ages of 15 –
18. I worked under their main English teacher’s supervision to plan classes that correlated with
topics that were being covered in class, as well as lessons that incorporated their interests. In this
role, I got the opportunity to work with a wide range of learners and the freedom to establish my
own classroom environment. My goal was to maintain a safe and positive atmosphere where
students were not intimidated to speak in class or ask for help. Additionally, I would volunteer
my time to provide tutoring sessions to students who were either struggling in English or
required more of a challenge. I was also present at many faculty events at the school.
