ETP TEAM #3 (SEPT 2015)

ALUMINIUM CAN FLING MACHINE

• Project objectives: to produce an attractive and

interactive can separating system that allows user
to play a game through putting used drink cans to
recycle.

• Description: This technology primary aim is to

inculcate the culture of separating wastes among
students by providing an interesting hands-on
approach to separate and throw aluminum can
that has the capability to grab the attention of
students to recycle.
Internal
WHAT is CREATIVITY?
 Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative
ideas into reality

 Creativity is characterised by the ability to perceive

the world in new ways, to find hidden patterns, to
make connections between seemingly unrelated
phenomena, and to generate solutions

 Creativity involves two processes: thinking, then

producing. If you have ideas, but don’t act on them,
you are imaginative but not creative.

What is INNOVATION?

Internal
What is INNOVATION?

Innovation is the implementation of a new

or significantly improved product, service
or process that creates value for business,
government or society

How to COME UP with a PROJECT TOPIC?

1.Find ISSUES (What is the problem & Who is facing it?)

2.In-depth DATA GATHERING (Apply Design Thinking)

3. Team DISCUSSION & BRAINSTORMING!

WHAT IS DESIGN THINKING?
A Human Centered approach to innovation and problem solving
Design thinking is a process that combines empathy for the user,
with creative tools from design and ethnography, technical skills
from engineering, and the strategy skills of business

“DESIGN CHALLENGE: How might we enhance our

experience in Pasar Malam (Night Market)”
Internal
Hear A Good Story
1 1. Interview Your Partner on his/her experiences in Pasar Malam
a. Be human: build rapport

Introduce Yourself. “How are you today?”

“Nice to meet you. Tell me about where you’re from.”

b. Seek Stories

“Could you tell me story about a time you … (..going to pasar malam?)

“ Could you tell me what you like /don’t like about ..

“What would I find surprising about how you …..

c. Talk about feelings. Dig deeper by following up

“Why do you say that? ….”Tell me more.”

“How did you feel at that moment, when ……….happened?

What does that mean?
Gain Insights by thinking of what might be the deeper meaning behind what your heard. Have fun with it

22. Imagine the Meaning 33. Create a Brainstorming topic

(notice something, then what the meaning might be) (Turn your insight into a question)
It’s interesting/surprising/telling that s/he ….. Select the one hunch (“I wonder if this means …”)
that gives you the most unique and exciting
perspective. Write it below

New Ideas?
Generate a diverse set of concepts in response to your brainstorming questions.
Your goal is to build ideas on others.

. Share your work, then Brainstorm as a team

Internal Divergence 4 Min

Sketch it Out
Pick an idea and stay in a generative mode as you work out the details.
Your Goal is to develop the idea and make it visual

5 Choose one idea and flesh it out into a product
