Lesson Four: Tools and Equipment

Students are expected to:

 Identify, describe and use layout tools, measuring instruments, hand
Objectives tools, power tools, stationary equipment and welding tools
 Demonstrate proper maintenance procedures for metal lathe and
welding equipment
 Demonstrate proper storage for tools and equipment
Grade 11 Metal Fabrication and Machining Content:
 Identify and use layout tools and other equipment in the shop
Standards  Demonstrate proper maintenance procedures
Addressed  Properly store tools in their spots at the end of every class

 Consistently utilize stationary equipment
 Consistently use hand and measuring tools
 Demonstrate proper storage techniques
 Properly maintain metal shop equipment such as the metal lathe

Motivation Tour the shop showing where equipment and tools are located and what each
one is used for.
Demonstrate proper safe and effective use of the tools
Demonstrate maintenance techniques for tools
Procedure  Discuss the learning outcome for today’s lesson with a tour of the shop
facility.
 Discuss the ‘why do we need to know this’
 Questions with equipment they haven’t used before
 Explain each tool in the metal shop and what it is used for
 Explain proper maintenance techniques for each tool

 Formative – Ask students’ questions throughout the shop facility tour

 Summative – Daily progress marks with tool storage and tool
Assessment maintenance
