NURSING AND FIRST AID AT
everything lies in the fact that the university is in
ECCI UNIVERSITY

A group of students from the ECCI university
based their research on the lack of nursing and
first aid at the university. They are clear that every
student who enters the university is given an
insurance policy that is valid for a year that
indicates that if any of them suffer an accident or
something like that will be treated by a hospital.
In most of the universities there are specific areas
for health zones, regardless of how big or small
they are, and they think that this should have it,
being also aware that nobody is exempt from
anything and in any moment, it can happen a
situation that requires immediate attention.
This group of students finded out that the
university is associated with a health service and
it is acceptable, but in case of
an emergency they will need
someone to give the students
first aid while they arrive at a
hospital.
Consequently, the researchers
have decided to ask the
students and the director of the
university and these were some
of their opinions about this situation:
Student Stephanie Taborda: “I think that an
important aspect is the creation and adaptation for
a health space, since there should be a measure of
contingency and attention for any incident that
may occur within the university.
It is questionable the fact that the university after
X time does not have a vital space yet,
considering the number of visitors and students it
receives" (Interview)
Director Luis Carlos said: “We are aware that the
problem exists, and that the implementation of
this service is necessary, but at this moment
an infrastructure process.
The university expects that by the year 2019 the
area already exists.
For the moment we have been careful with the
welfare of our students, providing them insurance
policy with agreements to different entities."

In addition, the representative of the University
Welfare also said: "I have a pretty dense comment
on this problem, but I cannot respond directly to
this because my words could be used against me."

These students realized that there are some
circumstances that are not urgent and that do not
merit a hospital or care of greater importance as
it is a headache, a cut, a faint or a stomachache,
this is why they believe necessary the presence of
someone with knowledge in first aid and nursing,
in addition to a place equipped with what is
required, such as first aid kit, a stretcher and a
immobilizer, etc.
They are conscious
that probably the
university does not
have the resources to
do the proper
adaptation, that’s
why they propose
the idea of training a
student of each
group that may be the representative and that in
case of some emergency they act according the
situation.
Based on what the researchers proposed and what
they wanted to carry out, they talked with the
leader of their career to find out how likely it was
to make the solution to the problem. The Leader
listened carefully to the proposal but said that this
issue was beyond his reach and he did not have
the right to authorize this process. However, he
advised the investigators and told them to speak
directly with the director of the university and that
he could decide whether to authorize or not.
The next step that the researchers took was try to
talk to the Director of the University, but since he
has a busy schedule, the group of students has not
been able to booked an appointment. So, they
decided to send a letter requesting the approval of
the approach while they adapted the nursing place
they said they had planned and, therefore, the
corresponding training. (On the next page the
researchers attached a copy of the letter that was
sent to the director with the purpose to explain to
him the strategy they wanted to do).
After the group of researchers sent the letter, they
waited a few days for the answer of the director
which was negative. The reason? He said that the
students already have an insurance policy and that
soon the university will have the nursing, so it
would not be necessary.
The researchers does not have more to say, only
hope that nothing bad happens and hope the
university will have the nursing the next year.
