ABSTRACT
Motor vehicles are one of the most effective modes of transportation people
use. Along with the development of the era, increasing people began to use
motor vehicles. It affects to the high level of fuel consumption because in
general most of the vehicles still use combustion engines coupled with the
amount of CO2 emissions are increasing along with the increase in the
number of motor vehicles. not to mention the fuel scarcity factor despite
the visible amount of oil reserves, with the current production speed, the
world's oil reserves will only last for 70 years, whereas the number of
motor vehicles will double in the next 30 years. The objective of this
research is to obtain the suitable material in its use for the side frame
structure of SHERA electric bus. The type of material selection method
used in this study is the Ashby material selection method on the side frame
structure. The type of material selection is the selection of strong and stiff
metal materials for bending and torsion loading when subjected to the
material. At the end of the research, it was found that metals suitable to the
selection criteria of this material in the form of several types of materials
which are 250 maraging steel, maraged at 482 ° C; Low alloy steel, AISI
9255, tempered at 205 ° C & oil quenched; Stainless steel, austenitic, AISI
201, wrought, full hard; Cast iron, nodular graphite, EN GJS 900 2,
hardened & tempered; Carbon steel, AISI 1050, tempered at 205 ° C &
H2O quenched; Aluminum, 7055, wrought, T77511; Titanium, alpha-beta
alloy, Ti-6Al-4V, aged and; Magnesium, EA55RS, wrought
