In Lesson 2 you were told that the Tarot Keys can be

combined in 112 different groups of nine Keys, each

group containing nine cards numbered consecutively. This
does not include the various possible "magic arrange-
ments" such as we have been using in this course. In every
group the numbers of the cards follow a certain natural
order. The 112 combinations fall into eight groups of 14
combinations each. As given in the tables below, the first
combination is the key to all the others in that group, as
will be seen from inspecting the tables. No two arrange-
ments are the same, and all represent slightly different
shades of meaning.

As there are fourteen arrangements in each group, it is

possible to use two each day for eight full weeks. One ar-
rangement should be set up for the morning meditation,
and the other should be used just before retiring. Here is
material for your occult diary. See what you can do in the
way of writing out meditations similar to those you have
been receiving in this course.
You have by no means yet exhausted the possibilities
of the Tarot. Just remember that there are no less than
1,l 24,000,727,777,607,680,000 possible arrangements of
the twenty-two major trumps. To all intents and purposes,
an infinite number of combinations. And every different
arrangement has its own particular effect upon sub-
consciousness. This tremendous figure, moreover, indi-
cates merely the number of possible ways in which all
twenty-two Keys may be arranged. It would be practically
impossible to reckon the various combinations that could
be made by varioussubdivision of the major trumps.
Just as Tarot is infinite in its combinations, so are
there innumerable ways to make use of it. The emphasis,
up to now, has been upon yourself. It has been the aim of
the courses of instruction concluded by this lesson, to put
you in possession of the fundamental knowledge requisite
for intelligent self-direction.
If you have worked persistently and faithhlly with the
material that has been put into your hands, you are quite
another personality than when you first began this under-
taking. New vistas have opened out before you. New ex-
periences have come your way. Ideas which would have
been hard for you to grasp have been made easier for you
to comprehend. Changes have been made in your mentali-
ty, and transformations have been made in your body-
chemistry. You are now better equipped to be of service to
humanity.
If you have fallen behind in your occult diary bring it
up to date by writing a summary of your present under-
standing of Tarot. Say what you have found of value in
the study. Note any changes of consciousness it may have
brought you. And be sure to include a statement of what
you think the Tarot philosophy indicates as to the place
which is taken in the world-order by enlightened men and
women.
You may not see just why this last statement is re-
quired, but it is really very important. The Inner School
invented Tarot to assist its members and others in the
work which leads to the realization that one has a very de-
finite place in the cosmic scheme of administration. Thus
our work together has necessarily the same objective, and
it is important that there be some record of your present
understanding of the matter.
In Lesson 2 you were told that the Tarot Keys can be

basis of the disposition of the sun's rays on Key 19. This
arrangement of four lines so as to form eight angles of 45
degrees is an important clue to the right use of Tarot. If
we imagine such a double cross as being drawn on a table,
and then place eight Tarot Keys at the extremities of the
lines, and a ninth Key at the center, we shall form a
combination of symbols which has power to bring out
meanings of the Keys which would not be so apparent if
the cards were considered separately.

twenty-two Keys may be arranged. It would be practically

Dear Fellow-Student:

I am still away fiom Headquarters, and will be for a

period as yet undetermined. This circumstance was so
outside the range of probability when the plan was made
to review your occult diaries that it was not even consi-
dered. Not even a teacher of occultism can see so very far
into the future.
If you sent your diaries to me now, they could not be
returned in less than five weeks. Hence I have decided to
ask you a few questions. The answers will tell me what
your position is in the grades of our work as it is being
gradually reorganized. They will also enable me to give
you advice concerning hrther studies which will be quite
as constructive as if I had reviewed the diaries themselves.
Make your answers complete, and yet concise. Weigh
your words carefully, so as to get as much meaning as
possible into every sentence.
The questions will be found on the page following the
last one of this lesson.
Address your replies to The School of Ageless Wis-
dom, 2853 Ontario Road, Washington, D.C. (editor's
note: this address is no longer valid). They will reach me
fiom there wherever I may be located at the time.

In replying to the following, please number your an-

swers to correspond with the number of the questions or
instruction.
1. How has Tarot altered your outlook on life?

2. What has it taught you of your place in the cosmic or-

der?

3. What have you learned from it concerning your posi-

tion in the human family?

4. What point of mental control have you reached in

mediation?

5. What main constructive idea did you find in the fol-

lowing books recommended for your study?

a. Ouspensky's Tertium Organum

b. William James' The Varieties of Religious Ex-

perience

c. Jacob Boehme's Supersensual Life

6. If you have found any particular digits or number re-

current in your life, state which, and how they make
their appearance.

7. Send 7 of your original meditations on the groups of

Keys in the Saturn Squares, indicating by the method
adopted in the lessons, the Keys you have used.

8. Send 7 original interpretations of the same groups of

Keys.
9. Send 4 original meditations on the Jupiter Squares,
and 4 original interpretations of the same Keys.

10. Send a brief resume of any wholly original material,

bearing on some single phase of your study, which
has come to you as a result of your contemplation of
the Tarot Keys.

1 1. Have you enjoyed your Tarot work?

12. Do you wish to develop hrther under our guidance?

Please send your reply within two months from the date
you received this, and address it to:

ROSICRUCIAN ORDER OF THE GOLDEN DAWN

The Rosicrucian Order of the Golden Dawn operates as an

outer expression of the philosophy, objective, and practic-
al work found in the public declarations of the Rosicru-
cians in the Fama and Confessio, which were published in
Germany in 1610 and 16 15, respectively. In these docu-
ments, the authors declare a method and society involved
in the transformation of man into a compassionate, social-
ly aware individual, committed to the service of the Bro-
therhood of Humanity, and the extension of the true gifts
of Mankind. Compassion (R.C., "roke", Hebrew for "ten-
derness") is the true mark of a Rosicrucian and the moti-
vation of our Work.

In 1888, three high ranking Adepts of the Western Mys-

tery Tradition formed the Hermetic Order of the Golden
Dawn (H.O.G.D.). Around the turn of the century, a series
of events culminated in the revolt of the Adepti of the
H.O.G.D. and the consequent expulsion of MacGregor
Mathers who at this time was the only remaining founder.
The remaining Adepti continued the Order as the "Stella
Matutina" (with the support of one of the founders, Wil-
liam Wynn Wescott) and MacGregor Mathers went on to
reformulate the Order as the "Rosicrucian Order of the
Alpha et Omega". Much of this has been documented by
R.A. Gilbert and Darcy Kuntz and we direct those inter-
ested in such to the published works of these gentlemen.

It is sufficient to state for the purpose of this introduction,

the original stream of the H.O.G.D. and its two branches
have continued to this day. The Founders of the Rosicru-
cian Order of the Golden Dawn (R.O.G.D.), have been
personally trained by the leaders of each in fully operating
Esoteric Orders. The Work of the R.O.G.D. includes and
expands upon the work of the three encompassing the
highest grades of the Golden Dawn and Rosicrucian Tra-
dition. The R.O.G.D. acknowledges Apostolic Succession
and strongly endorses the value of Lineage and its impor-
tance within our Tradition. Each grade of the R.O.G.D.
has been received in proper form by those who have re-
ceived such all the way to the original Founders of the
H.O.G.D. and beyond.

All candidates for Initiation into the R.O.G.D. must com-

plete a six-month Probationary Membership. The
. R.O.G.D., as a vehicle for the True and Invisible Rosicru-
cian Order, offers this service "gratis", that is, we offer it
as a genuine gift and we do not ask anything in return,
monetary or otherwise. The only condition is to turn in
each month's record before we send out the next lesson.

Currently we offer Initiation at our Mother Temple lo-

cated in Southern California. Membership requires a
monthly attendance and a few additional times a year for
grade work. The astral component of our rituals is a criti-
cal aspect, but the candidate must be physically present at
our Initiation and Grade Rituals.
