1. Hardware Installation.
2. Connect one end of the network cable to the No. 0 network port of the server, and
the other end of the network cable to the related switch or router.
If you want to know more information about the network, contact the lab administrator.
Note: You must use No. 0 network port. The NetMAX detects the IP address of the No. 0
network card to ensure the normal operation.
The RHEL GUI allows you to configure the network card IP address. Right-click the
network icon and select Edit Connections…, see Figure 4-1.
In the Wired tab, select No. 0 network card, that is System eth0. Click Edit… to
configure the “System eth0” related network card, see Figure 4-2.
Note: You must use No. 0 network port. The NetMAX detects the IP address of the No. 0
network card to ensure the normal operation.
Note: Some machines may have multiple network cards. Check the network card and
network connection being used, and configure that network card accordingly.
In the IPv4 Settings tab, configure the IP parameters, see Figure 4-3.
Note: Because the server needs a fixed IP address, plan the IP address in advance.
In the Addresses area, click Add to enter the IP address, Netmask, and Gateway, see
Figure 4-5.
After the configuration is complete, check Enable Networking to let the configuration to
take effect, see Figure 4-7.
In the RHEL system, select Application > System Tools > Terminal, see Figure 4-8.
Enter “ifconfig –a” in the terminal to query the network card IP address. The available IP
settings are shown as follows (eth0 as an example):
# ifconfig -a
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
Interrupt:19 Memory:d8000000-d8012800
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
Enter “ping xx.xx.xx.xx (for example, an IP address of a connected PC)” in the terminal to
check whether the network connection is OK. Press Ctrl + C to stop the ping test.
# ping 10.61.117.33
^C
If the “ifconfig” is abnormal, and the “ping” is abnormal (including broken link, severe
delay, or high packet loss rate), pause the test. Contact the lab administrator to solve the
problem, and then go to the next step.
When the network is normal, log in to the RHEL server remotely from a PC by using the
SSH tool (for example, putty) to verify the remote login is normal.
Install the putty software on your PC. Enter Host Name, and click OK, see Figure 4-10.
If it is the first connection, the software will pop up the following dialog box. Select “Yes”,
see Figure 4-11.
Enter root, and press Enter. Enter the password of root user, and press Enter, see Figure
4-12.
After a remote SSH is connected successfully, the system will prompt “#”, and wait for the
Linux command.
Only when the remote SSH connection succeeds, you can go to the next step.
The remote SSH connection is enabled by default for a RHEL server. The network
problem causes the most remote SSH connection failure. Check the network that
connects the server and PC, and contact the lab administrator to solve the problem.
Note: Only when the remote SSH connection succeeds, you can install the
NexMAX/NDS.
Run the following command, and the system will prompt the “Date/Time Properties” GUI.
#system-config-date
Figure 4-14.
# vi /etc/fstab
# /etc/fstab
# See man pages fstab(5), findfs(8), mount(8) and/or blkid(8) for more info
Log in to the system as the root user, and enter the directory in which the Sybase IQ
installation files are saved.
# cd /sybase_install
#./run_install_linux.sh /netmax
# su -
Switch off the terminal which the installation commands are executed on. Log in to a new
command line terminal as the root user, and execute the following command in blue to
check whether the environment variables have values.
# echo $SYBASE
/netmax/SybaseIQ
Note: If the command line output is not blank, the Sybase is installed successfully.
# cat /proc/version
#$SYBASE/SYSAM-2_0/bin/lmutil hostid
# $SYBASE/SYSAM-2_0/bin/cpuinfo
4.8.2 Authorization
Whether the NetMAX is installed or not before authorization will affect the procedure of
authorization.
