1.

Gary Oldman is constantly being hunted as the prime suspect in the past two
assassination attempts against the president. Has been framed by Tim Roth, and is
eventually caught, in his “conspiracy base”, at the hands of a trap (and it later turns
out, framing) laid out by Roth.
Tells Levi, during his journey to the Pentagon, that there is a conspiracy enfolding
and that he is innocent, as well as the fact that the previous botch-up by Levi might
not have in fact been his fault. However, before he can share any of this
information, he is killed by Tim Roth.

2. Tim Roth takes a more background role in the film, for at least the first half. He
instructs Levi on what to do/where to go, his objectives, and although usually
involved to some degree, it is usually again as a background role in the operations,
i.e. in the surveilance van.
However, between Oldman's arrest and death, Levi learns that Roth had a role in
the previous assassinations attempts, at the expense of Natalie Portman, who is
killed by Roth during his escape.
The final showdown is between him and Levi, at the White House. Roth tries to
persuade Levi that he has given up, and is ready to surrender. Lying, though Levi's
defence is momentarily lowered, he goes for a kill-shot, but Levi is quicker, and fires
two shots at Roth.
As a semi sub-plot, it is also strongly suggested (body language, jokey comments
and rumours) that he and Jolie were having an affair, and both were involved in
assassination attempts on the president, though they were both acting
independently, unaware of the other's plans – probably both having “side-
objectives” of sweetening the other, in order to use them to their advantage in their
plans. Washington falsely identifies the two as co-conspirators, much to Roth's
amusement.

3. Natalie Portman is tasked alongside Zachary Levi, trying to capture Oldman. At the
start of the movie, as Oldman escapes the apartment complex, she, being the
quicker of the two, rushes after him, quickly leaving Levi behind. She is last seen
following Oldman into the subway, and isn't seen again for just over the first half of
the film. She is assumed dead.
However, after Oldman's arrest, it is revealed that she had in fact not been killed by
Oldman, but was kidnapped, though the identity of the said kidnapper was never
actually identified.
At the Pentagon, she is monitoring Oldman in his cell, during which, Roth enters
and executes Oldman. On his escape, he murders Portman, and it is also later
revealed (implied?) by Roth, that it was he who abducted her, in order to use as a
bargaining chip/blackmail against Levi in particular, if the worse came to the worse.

4. Denzel Washington, the new president, is starting his time in office by making a
radical decision - to pull out of an ongoing foreign war, and to re-establish peaceful
negotiations with them. Many are opposed to this, and so Washington has been
victim to two assassination attempts in his first two months of office, both narrowly
escaped. Remaining strong throughout the film.
After Oldman's arrest, is poisoned by Jolie, but she is arrested by Levi before she
can make her escape, and he notifies the medical team, who subsequently save
Washington.
During the finale of the film, the White House is taken over by Roth and a team of
mercenaries, though is saved by Levi and the few remaining members of the Secret
Service.

5. Angelina Jolie, the wife of the president, has a minor role throughout the film. She
mostly acts as a “trophy wife” in terms of screenplay, and as a support and advice-
giver to Washington, though she is more right-wing/Republican than he is.
In the confusion after Oldman's and Portman's murders, however, she sees her
opportunity for her true goal – to poison her husband, the president. Though she is
successful, Levi stops her from escaping, and then notifies the medical team, who
subsequently save Washington. Levi's name is completely cleared of any wrong-
doing, as his botch-up was in fact a cause of Jolie's tampering with the security
arrangements, not Levi's.
As a semi sub-plot, it is also strongly suggested (body language, jokey comments
and rumours) that she and Roth were having an affair, and both were involved in
assassination attempts on the president, though they were both acting
independently, unaware of the other's plans – probably both having “side-
objectives” of sweetening the other, in order to use them to their advantage in their
plans. Washington falsely identifies the two as co-conspirators, much to Roth's
amusement.

6. Zachary Levi, Secret Service agent who botched-up the security arrangement
while protecting the president from the last assassination attempt. At the beginning
of the movie, he is tasked alongside Portman, to investigate a possible meeting of
the would-be-assassins. They follow Oldman, who was already at the scene, but he
escapes, along with, it seems, kidnapping Portman.
He and Roth lead an assault on Oldman's base, and subsequently arrest him and
rescue Portman. Though he wants to investigate Oldman's claims of a cover-up
himself, Roth asks him to return to the White House, while he interviews Oldman.
At the White House, after Jolie poisons Washington, Levi stops her from escaping,
and then notifies the medical team, who subsequently save Washington. Though, at
this time, Roth has killed both Oldman and Portman, and has also escaped.
With Levi and the Secret Service at the White House, protecting the president, Roth
and a team of mercenaries storm the White House, and wipe out the majority of its
defences, before coming to a final showdown with Levi. Roth tries to persuade Levi
that he has given up, and is ready to surrender. Lying, though Levi's defence is
momentarily lowered, he goes for a kill-shot, but Levi is quicker, and fires two shots
at Roth.
In the end, though he has lost his mentor and friend, Roth, and his girlfriend,
Portman, as well as the fact that the president will never fully recover from his
poisoning, Levi's name is completely cleared of any wrong-doing, as his botch-up
was in fact a cause of Jolie's tampering with the security arrangements, not Levi's.
