Faculty of Law Relocation Scholarship


The Law Faculty at the University of Tasmania is offering a new Relocation Scholarship valued at
$5,000 to eligible students who choose to study law at UTAS commencing in 2011. The Relocation
Scholarship is designed to encourage interstate students to study Law at UTAS by assisting with the
financial costs of moving to Tasmania. Students must attain an ATAR of 90 or above to be considered
for the scholarship. There is no need to complete a separate application form as the scholarship is
awarded on an automatic basis to all eligible students who accept an offer and enrol to study Law at

Women in Engineering - $5,000 Scholarships


The School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering is offering five scholarships worth
$5,000 each to high achieving female students.
To be eligible to apply, students need to achieve a VCE ATAR of 95 or above and commence
engineering studies in 2011.
The scholarships recognise and reward talented female students with outstanding academic achievement.

RMIT Undergraduate Academic Merit Scholarships – Electrical Engineering
Professional engineering is a world-recognised career and provides students with the ability to work
internationally. RMIT's School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) aims to produce high
quality graduates and strongly believes that top performing VTAC students should consider this career

The School has created the Undergraduate Academic Merit Scholarships to encourage high achievers

Trial-a-Trade
William Angliss Institute is once again offering students aged 14-18 the opportunity to experience
foods and hospitality careers for a day. This unique program will give participants a hands-on feel for

Mental Health Week


Did you know that 1 in 5 of us will experience mental health problems in their lifetime? To mark
Mental Health Week (10-16 October) the Monash University School of Psychology and Psychiatry is
inviting students from Years 10 to 12 to submit a creative piece - essay, poem, art or craft work - on
what mental illness or health means to them with a chance to win prizes! Entry is free and the
competition entry closes this Wednesday 6 October 2010.

Prizes will be awarded at the “My Brush with Mental Illness” evening on Thursday 14 October at
6:30pm at the Clayton Campus of Monash University.

Electrical and Computer Engineering - EnGenius 2010
Year 10 – 12 students are invited to attend an Information Session and discover what RMIT students

Alternative Entry to Australian National University


Students who do not attain the ATAR they are required for entry into their chosen course at ANU are
offered another chance through uniTEST – an aptitude test for university study.

To be eligible to sit the test you must be:

 A current Year 12 candidate who is expecting to receive an ATAR of at least 65+


 A recent school leaver who has not undertaken any tertiary study and has an ATAR of at least 70
 Must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident of Australia (including a holder of an Australian
permanent humanitarian visa) or a New Zealand citizen. International students are not eligible to
sit this test.

No preparation is required for this test, but registration is essential and must be made by Wednesday
24 November 2010. The uniTEST will be held on Wednesday 1 December 2010.

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Courses


Year 12 students are to note an important change - Flinders University has removed the UMAT
requirement for applicants seeking entry to Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy courses in 2011.
This means that current year 12 students will be considered solely on the basis of their ATAR score.

Bachelor of Science: More places in 2011
In 2011 there will be an increase in the quota into the Bachelor of Science to 1500 CSPs (up from 1462
in 2010). As a result, students considering applying for the Bachelor of Science for 2011 are advised to
base their application decision on the minimum ATAR of 85.00 for the degree.

Individual Consultation Sessions for International Students in Year 12


The University is running 30-minute individual consultation sessions for International Students every
Tuesday and Thursday until 20 December 2010 (when Change of Preference closes). International
Students studying Year 12 are invited to meet University staff in person at our Parkville campus. This is
a great opportunity to discuss your study options, obtain advice about your VTAC application, and find

Students enquire as to the minimum levels of fitness they need to enter the police force. These are –

 Grip test - to test the strength of your fore and upper arm.
To pass the test: You will be required to squeeze 30 kilograms with each hand.
 Illinois agility run - to test your agility and speed.
To pass the test: You will be required to complete the course in less than 20 seconds.
 20m shuttle run - to test your aerobic fitness.
To pass the test: You will be required to run one kilometre in 6.20 minutes.
 Push ups - to test your upper body and core strength.
To pass the test: You will be required to perform five successive push ups while on your toes.
 Prone bridge - to test your core abdominal strength
To pass the test: You will be required to hold this position, with a straight line from the shoulders
through the hips to the knees, for 60 seconds.
 Obstacle climb - to test your functional ability to climb an object
To pass the test: You will be expected to climb over a 1.3 metre obstacle in a controlled manner.
 100 metre swim - to test your ability on water.
To pass the test: You will be expected to swim 100 metres unassisted, without stopping, in under four
minutes.

Regional Bonus Scheme
The Faculty of Higher Education, Lilydale is offering a five point ATAR bonus to students from
nominated regions applying for undergraduate courses commencing in Semester 1, 2011. Students
who meet the minimum ATAR for courses at the Lilydale campus will have their score adjusted by
Swinburne for the selection process. The scheme is designed to encourage students from local

New Bachelor of Applied ICT


Swinburne University is offering a new Bachelor of Applied Information & Communication
Technologies degree commencing 2011. This innovative program is structured as an "integrated"

NCPS (formerly Australian Institute of Public Safety) offers the Bachelor of Social
Science (Criminal Justice) to students wishing to pursue a career in the criminal justice system in the
areas of law enforcement, courts and corrections and youth justice, or pathway into further studies in
Law, Criminology and Forensics.
Graduates have gone on to pursue careers in:
 State or Federal Police;
 Investigations in State or Federal agencies such as Customs, Immigration,
and the Australian Taxation Office;

Food and Nutrition at Deakin has changed
Are your interested in nutrition but not keen on chemistry and food science?
Deakin’s new Bachelor of Food and Nutrition provides students with greater flexibility while reducing
the need to study chemistry and food science as core units within this three-year course.

How does the Bachelor of Food and Nutrition differ from the former Bachelor of Food Science and
Nutrition?

 there’s only one core unit of chemistry in the first year


 food science is now offered as an elective major sequence
 students now have twice as many elective units of study, which can be selected from any area
of the University.

After successfully completing this course, graduates will have the knowledge and skills to pursue
careers in food policy, food regulation, nutrition and consumer education, private practice, community
nutrition and nutrition awareness campaigns.

Course Update – Bachelor of Physiotherapy


The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences has modified the study score required for the
English prerequisite for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy.
The English study score required is now 30 (previously 25) and the English as a Second Language
(ESL) requirement is 35 (previously 30). Visit

New Course: Bachelor of Health Science/Bachelor of Business


A new four-year degree - Bachelor of Health Science/Bachelor of Business will be offered at the
Caulfield campus in 2011.
This course combines studies in business theory and skills with learning about health systems,
programs and policies. The Health Science degree offers major sequences in Clinical and Public Health
Sciences or Health Programs and Policy. By combining a business degree with health sciences,
graduates will acquire a broad base of commercial knowledge, making them attractive to employers in
these environments, and strengthening career options.
The Prerequisite requirements are Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or 25 in
English (any other) and a study score of at least 25 in mathematics (any).

IB RESULTS
Release of Results Tuesday 4th January 2011
1. How to get your results
IB Diploma candidates’ results for 2010 are issued to the IB Coordinator on 4th January 2011. On this date, I will
view the results on IBIS. Students will then be able to telephone the IB Coordinator’s Office from 10.00am–
12.30pm on the following numbers where they will speak to Mrs Debbie Clingeleffer-Woodford (Director of
Learning), Mrs Ildi Anderson (Assistant to the Academic Office/Director of Learning) or me (IB Coordinator).

The results released on 4th January 2011 are grades 1-7. On the 6th January (14:15 Greenwich Mean Time)
students will be able to access their results themselves at http://results.ibo.org. Candidates view their results
using a personal identification number (PIN) that the IBO has issued each candidate. In late January 2011 the
component grades will be sent to students detailing the results achieved for each part of assessment once these
have been released by the IBO.

VCE RESULTS
1. How to get your results
Release of Results Monday 13th December 2011
There are four ways to receive your VCE results:
1. From 7am, log on to My Info on the VTAC site, enter your VCAA Number and Pin to receive your ATAR.
2. From 9am, log on to VCAA web site with your VCAA number and Date of Birth, to receive your individual
Study Scores.
3. From 7am, VCE results will be sent to your mobile phone provided you registered your mobile phone
number when you applied through VTAC.
4. Tuesday 14th December VCE results will arrive at your postal address, students with international and
interstate addresses will need to wait longer.
