Leadership and Social Responsibility

Leading abilities come from the inner world of a person combining a philosophic

approach with qualifications acquired. One of the qualifications a leader must have is

the ability to constantly offer to his society in order to develop and improve it towards

the best possible result. The term ‘social leadership’ or ‘social leader’ denotes the part

of the society or the social class , the ‘class of leaders’ as Plato calls it, which is

responsible to organize effectively the productivity of the society and lead his/her

society to a better situation for everyone. Briefly, he/she is responsible to bring

prosperity and development to the whole. In the case where a social leader is unable or

refuses to fulfill his promises and lead the society to evolution, crisis of social leadership

is created.

Consequently, a proper leader must be moral and try to offer as much as possible to his

society. It’s not only the ubiquitous availability of information regarding externalities that

is responsible for the shifting paradigm. It is the heightened sensibilities amongst the

stakeholders and the general people that have enforced greater accountability among

the companies. These developments in scale, sensors and sensibilities all fuel one

another. The average company feels the effects because as measurement improves

and access to those measurements become ubiquitous, people act on the information

due to the escalated sensibilities. Formerly unseen and unremarked effects of doing

business start getting measured, and affected people, equipped with data seek

recourse.

Public Health
The seminar stressed the dissimilarity of the countries’ populations. Drawing

contrast between the 2015 estimation of Cuba’s population of 11.2 million and the

Philippines’ 102.4 million, as well as the geographical differences of the two countries,

Dr Faraon said, “It is relatively easier to manage universal healthcare coverage in one

continuous island of 11 million people than a country like the Philippines with more than

7,000 islands of more than 100 million people of diverse cultures and dialects. “The

devolved health system is also a challenge as the assumption is that every local

government unit is self-sufficient and empowered to do what it takes to deliver the

needed public healthcare services.

The reality is very far from this assumption. There is still widespread inequality

observed both in the supply and demand sides of the service delivery network.” Lastly,

Dr Faraon brought forth the issue of human resource shortages. “We do not have the

budget for the necessary human health resources needed to achieve the level of

preventive health care that Cuba enjoys now.” In fact, it was the Department of Health

(DOH) Secretary, Paulyn Ubial, herself who reported that the health sector needs a

yearly budget of Php 57B in order to hire an additional 35,000 doctors. “The hope is to

strengthen primary healthcare in the smallest unit of government, which is what the

Cuban health system model is all about. At present, this is not feasible. We are also not

producing enough doctors committed to work for the country immediately after

graduation.”

National Situation
"Life only asks us to make reasonable progress in reasonable time." -

Anonymous. The Philippines is disorganized, to due to the lavish culture in which the

growing country revises itself and modifies its economy and political position, by

increasing GDP or other quantities and desires to develop a well run country by putting

an end to terrorism threats and decreasing the number of people in poverty. Similarly,

the Philippine social structure, political condition, and economic circumstances, are all

assembled in the same way. Life in the Philippines are hard, traumatic, and severe but

not impossible. The Philippines is illustrated as a country that is lodged between being

contemporary and retaining a local tradition.

Gender and Cultural Sensitivity

Gender sensitivity is an integral part of decision making in industrialized countries

where there is a growing number of female headed households, especially in the urban

setting. In less developed countries, these issues are aggravated by cheap, gender

insensitive alternatives which cause stress and discomfort especially among females

whose needs greatly differ from men. However, Gender Sensitivity is not about pitting

women against men. An education that is gender sensitive benefits members of both

sexes. Sexism creates bias and promotes an unjust society. It exists both among men

and among women. It does not respect individuals according to their aspirations,

potentials or abilities.

Human Rights
Watched a film called “Liway” and was utterly blown away, Liway isn’t a perfect

film, but what works is downright compelling. In Oebanda’s fervent desire to make a film

as a tribute to his mother, he has also made a film that urges its audience to vacate the

juvenile conveniences of being mannequins without the will for words or actions. The

film isn’t just an ode to the pleasures of the freedom that has been snatched from its

characters. It is also a testament to the price that was paid for the freedom that we

sometimes take for granted. Drug dealers and drug addicts are a stigmatized group,

and stigmatized groups always have difficulty gaining political support for the defense of

their rights.”

Disaster Preparedness and Management

When any disaster strikes, whether it be a hurricane, flood, domestic terrorism,

tornado, or fire, the situation has the potential to create chaos and confusion. Effective

disaster preparedness helps alleviate some of the chaos wrought by the unexpected

crisis. It is critical to have a written plan in place, and for all staff to understand their role

within the plan. Disaster plans should be revisited regularly to ensure complete

understanding within the organization. If you follow your disaster plan, it is possible for

your nonprofit to be able to get back up and running quickly and begin serving the

populations affected by the disaster.
