INSTALLATION
Before installing the TYPE 740 Valve, all air lines in the system
should be blown clean to remove any moisture or loose
material. To further ensure long, trouble-free service, an
efficient filter should be installed in the air line on the supply
side of the valve.
Port number or letter designations are marked on the top and
bottom of the valve body.
Prior to connecting power supply, be sure that the coils match
the power supply. Voltage characteristics for solenoid operators
are indicated by the suffix of the part number on the nameplate
of the valve. Voltage of a solenoid coil is indicated on the coil.

OPERATION
The air pilot signal is controlled in solenoid operators by
energizing the solenoid coil to open and close a 3-way valve in
the operator. When electrical power is not present, the valve
may be operated by pushing the manual override button
located on the side of the operator. Although the solenoid coil
may be energized for extended periods of time, it is better
practice to design your electrical circuits so the coil is
de-energized for the extended period, and energized for the
shorter period.
CAUTION
3-Position Closed Center Valves. Simultaneous activation
of both solenoids will provide full supply pressure to both
delivery and exhaust ports. High back-pressure generated in the
delivery lines by heavy loads or high speed may cause leakage
of the valve.
3-Position Exhaust Open Center Valves. Simultaneous
activation of both solenoids will provide full supply pressure to
both delivery ports and blocked exhaust ports.
ADJUSTMENTS
Adjusting screws for the built in flow controls are located by
the delivery ports. These screws control individual exhaust
restrictors for ports R & S. Control screws are captive and will
not back out of the body segment.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE & REPAIR
RECOMMENDATIONS
Maintenance periods should be scheduled in accordance to
frequency of use and working environment of the valves.
All valves must be visually inspected for wear and given an “in
system” operating performance and leakage test at least once
a year. If these visual observations indicate valve repair is
required, the valve must be removed, repaired and tested.
It is recommended that after every two years of service, the
valve is torn down and overhauled regardless of frequency of
use.
WARNINGS - INSTALLATION AND MOUNTING
The user of these devices must conform to all applicable
electrical, mechanical, piping and other codes in the
installation, operation or repair of these devices.
INSTALLATION! Do not attempt to install, operate or
repair these devices without proper training in the
technique of working on pneumatic systems and devices,
unless under trained supervision.
Compressed air systems contain high levels of stored
energy. Do not attempt to connect, disconnect or repair
these products when a system is under pressure. Always
exhaust the pressure from an air system before performing
any service work. Failure to do so can result in serious
personal injury.
Disconnect the electrical power supply before connecting
or servicing a solenoid operated valve.
MOUNTING! Devices should be mounted and positioned
in such a manner that they cannot be accidently operated.
MAINTENANCE
TYPE 740 valves may be serviced by shutting off and venting
the main air supply, but removal of the valve from its mounting
is recommended. Main air supply must be vented before
removing the valves from a manifold.
If a solenoid operated valve fails to operate, pushing the
manual override button on the side of the operator should
quickly indicate whether the trouble is electrical or mechanical.
If required, the solenoid coil can be easily replaced by removing
the retaining nut and slipping off the coil.
After disassembly of the valve, clean all metal parts with a
nonflammable solvent and wash all rubber and plastic parts
with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and blow dry with
a low-pressure air jet. When applicable, check the internal pilot
ports in the valve body to make sure the passages are open.
Replace any rubber parts that are damaged or worn. Repair
parts and kits for valve portions and operator portions are
available as shown on page 4.
