The following graphs and tables demonstrate information about misdemeanor crimes in county
courts across the state of Texas from 2007 – 2017.
*All the empirical data come from annual statistic reports for the Texas Judiciary*

While theft accounts for the largest fraction of misdemeanors, it has also decreased the most over
the ten-year period.
The second largest offense by percentage is DWIs. From 2007 to 2017 there were 983,167 cases
of driving while intoxicated. Fortunately, there is a downward trend in the data and social
programs like Click-It or Ticket have been successful in reducing the frequency of the offenses
even though they have plateaued in recent years.

Traffic and Assault, which account for the lowest percentages of misdemeanors show similar
trends in declining rates.
Finally, the most interesting statistic was possession of drugs including marijuana. This was the
only example out of the five most common misdemeanors that had an overall increase in the
number of offenses.
