e. Non-compliance:
a. In the event that any test fails to meet the requirements:
i. Carry out remedial works subject to Approval and re-test until all the
criteria specified has been satisfied;
ii. Bear all costs of remedial works and the re-test. No extension of time
will be allowed.

WAT6.T125.7 WATER FLOOD TEST TO ROOF INSTALLATIONS

1. Testing Arrangements:
a. Carry out water flood test to roofing at CM's direction;
b. Allow a Direct Testing Contractor (DTC) to carry out non-destructive tests
to verify the watertightness of the roofing system;
c. Provide all necessary attendance on the DTC including the requirements
stated in sub-clause (3);
d. Allow the DTC access to carry out infra-red scanning testing during the 24
to 48 hour period immediately following the draining of the roof area under
test;
e. Obtain from DTC test reports for the water flood test for record. The
original report including the infra-red scanning results shall be sent directly
by the DTC to the CM.
2. Testing Samples:
a. Entire installed roofing system including canopy unless Instructed otherwise.
3. Testing Methods:
a. Seal all outlets and construct suitable dam walls to compartmentalize large
roof areas. Do not permit any debris to enter into drainage pipeworks;

b. Carefully flood the roofs to levels agreed with the CM, generally no less
than 150 mm, but in no case higher than existing curb levels and maintain
for 24 hours;
c. Mark the top water level at clearly visible locations and regularly inspect for
leaks;
d. Slowly drain roofs and remove all outlet blockages and dam walls.
4. Non-compliance:
a. In the event of test failure:
i. Submit to CM detailed proposals for remedial measures;
ii. Carry out subsequent repairs and flood tests and further infra-red
scanning tests until the roof is watertight;
iii. Bear all associated costs and expense of any subsequent flood testing
including subsequent infra-red scanning tests. No extension of time will
be allowed.

WAT6.T130.A TESTING TO BASEMENT / SEMI-BASEMENT EXTERNAL TANKING

INSTALLATIONS
1. Testing Arrangements:
a. Carry out tests to tanking at CM's direction after all penetrations through the
waterproofing layers (e.g. tie rods or struts from the ELSW) are patched up;
b. Submit three copies of the test reports, or other number of copies as required
by the CM for the tests carried out for record;
c. Allow a Direct Testing Contractor (DTC) to carry out non-destructive tests
or infra-red scanning to verify the watertightness of the tanking system;
d. Provide all necessary attendance on the DTC including the requirements
stated in sub-clause (3);
e. Obtain from DTC test reports for record. The original report including the
infra-red scanning results, if any, shall be sent directly by the DTC to the
CM.
2. Testing Locations:
a. Entire installed tanking system unless instructed otherwise.
3. Testing Methods:
a. Propose testing method(s) compatible with the type of waterproofing system
installed. A mix of test methods may be used;
b. Water Test -
i. Carry out water spray tests;
ii. Spray water with water jets fitted to 13mm diameter supply pipes
delivering a water pressure of 210 to 240kPa (30-35psi). Locate the
pressure gauge at a distance not exceeding 1500mm from the water jet
and apply water evenly to the test surface for 2 consecutive hours,
maximum area per test to be 100m2;
iii. Carry out infra-red scanning test to 50% of the waterproofed area
proposed using this test method during the 24 to 48 hour period
immediately following the water spray test;

iv. Arrange and allow access for the DTC to carry out infra-red scanning
test to the remaining 50% area using this test method during the 24 to 48
hour period immediately following the water spray test. Jointly inspect
with CM's representative to ensure thorough dryness and readiness for
infra-red scanning.
c. Spark Test -
i. Carry out spark tests to 80% of the waterproofed area proposed using
this test method;
ii. Arrange and allow access for the DTC to carry out spark tests to the
remaining 20% area using this test method; jointly inspect with CM's
representative to ensure thorough dryness and readiness for the test;
iii. Not suitable at waterproofing applied to basement wall with steel ELSW
as its struts would affect the testing result;
iv. Test by using a portable DC high voltage test detector. Test equipment
used is to be the same type as per that used by DTC;
v. Move the broad brush probe of the detector across the surface of the
installed waterproofing membrane to locate the flaw; once identified,
move the probe across the flaw again to reconfirm the leak location;
vi. Fault at the waterproofing installation is identified by means of one of
the following at the portable detector:
- an audible alarm; or
- an illumination indicator; or
- a visual spark from the search electrode; or
- a drop in the pre-set test voltage as shown on the output meter.
d. Smoke Test -
i. Carry out smoke tests to 80% of the waterproofed area proposed using
this test method;
ii. Arrange and allow access for the DTC to carry out smoke tests to the
remaining 20% area using this test method; jointly inspect with CM's
representative to ensure readiness for the test;
iii. Test by using smoke generator / blower system. Test equipment used is
to be the same type as per that used by DTC;
iv. Obtain written confirmation from the waterproofing manufacturer that
the smoke proposed for the test will not cause adverse effect to the
installed waterproofing; only inert, non-toxic smoke to be used;
v. Test by injecting smoke into the inter-phase between the waterproofing
installation and substrate. For horizontal installations, the blinding layer
is the substrate. For vertical installations, in the case of sheet or pipe
pile installations, the furring wall to the sheet or pipe pile wall is the
substrate; in the case of open cut excavation, the concrete wall structure
is the substrate;

vi. Activate smoke generator / blower system at nominal 150 cf/min to 450
cf/min flow rate and 250 pascal. Continue to purge system for 60
seconds after smoke begins to emerge from temporary vent outlet(s).
Cap the temporary vent outlet(s). Adjust control valve to maintain 250-
500 pascal. Monitor membrane for lifting. Reduce pressure if excessive
lifting occurs;
vii. Visually identified smoke leakage locations indicate leakage points in
the waterproofing installation.
4. Non-compliance:
a. In the event of test failure:
i. Submit to CM detailed proposals for remedial measures;
ii. Carry out subsequent repairs and tests and further retests until the
basement / semi-basement is watertight;
iii. Bear all additional time and costs arising from or in connection with
failure to meet the testing requirements, including but not limited to
those incurred in sub-clause (ii) above and subsequent tests by the DTC.
