TO OUR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

It s always very hard to imagine how the year will end especially if the goals you wish to
accomplish are very different from the generally accepted goals of similar institutions in your
sector of operation. We are grateful for believing in us and the support you have offered has pushed
us very strongly towards our goal as a school. Our main goal is to “teach minds how to solve
problems within societies”.

As parents and guardians the most challenging activity we go through in life is that of choosing the
right school for our children. A lot of questions come to mind in that moment, which school can I
choose for my child? Who do I wish my child to be when he grows up? Those and more questions
have to be answered right on the day we take our kids for interviews. But to answer these questions
we need to understand the mission of the schools we choose. It is in the school's mission statement
that a parent is guided on how the men and women who go through the school will be like in the
future.

At Purple parrot our goal, spirit and tradition is to build an educational institution of high quality in
preparing our children to be leaders in finding solutions for the problems of our societies. Dealing
with the problems of our generations like health, unemployment, un-united, technology and alike.
To achieve this goal the school is redesigning the basic structures on which strong, long-term
institutions are built. It is upon us to change the painful experiences of our grandparents and those
of ours in order to build a whole new world for the children's children. For this goal the path we
choose to follow will influence the outcomes which will be seen into the years to come.

If we use the evidences which have been brought to our attention through past experiences, the fact
that the job market has changed can be mined from these historical experiences. This fact has to be
addressed by the education system. The fact that allot of human effort has been replaced by
computing and machines makes most of the jobs which where compatible with our education
system absolute. This in the end leads to an output of workers who are not skilled for the current
job market.

We need new skills to adapt to this change because most of the jobs we could do with the current
training skills are eliminated by automation. At purple parrot we have tried to envision the new
world and the skills we will need to able to live in that new world. Our critical question is “How
will the Job market change in the next ten years?” we try to discuss this question and more of a kind
before we prepare our educational materials. The habit of avoiding uncertainty and knowing that
the future will come very soon has guided us to capitalize on what we expect to change in the
future and try to plan on how we prepare our learners for that future.

In the path of building strong fundamentals, we experience challenges and achievements. In this
letter we present to you both the challenges and achievements of the year.

Academics
Generally there is a great improvement in our performance from when we changed our grading
system and with the introduction of beginning of term assessment. Our director of studies has
observed the changes in academics and some of the reasons why these changes have happened:-

First term. The performance was not very good because the pupils had just been
introduced to their new classes and others were new to the school. But still this did not stop
our primary section pupils to perform well in the new environment.

Second term. We introduced beginning of term this made a great academic improvement to
our pupils in both primary section and nursery section. Our nursery section has improved
in numerical and reading skills this is due to the extra efforts by our great teachers. This
team is working harder day by day to the desired objective.

In term three. Our pupils have aimed on higher grades despite the raise of grading marks.
They have got good grades and there was a lot of competition amongest them. We have
seen P.1, P.2 and P.3 pupils hit top mark of 100% in the lubaga division exams.

The biggest challenge to academics through this year is absentism which leads to decline in pupils'
performance
In our term two letter to parents and guardians in the academic section we mentioned the
introduction of a new grading system; this system includes the three assessment tests we do at
school. These assessments contribute to the marks on the pupils' report form as follows:-

Beginning of term 20%

Midterm 20%
End of term 60%

This grading system affects pupils who miss out on any of the three assessments. Our pupils will
return home with good grades if they manage to take part in all the assessments
Our term two letter gives more details on the grading system, please read this section with the term
two academic section to get a good picture of the way we are trying to improve our grading.
