Lesson Title: ABC’s & Rhythm Subject: Vocab and Music
Age or Grade Level: Kindergarten Number of Students: 15 Length of Lesson: 20
Objective -Teaching students the idea of rhythm
-Review certain letters of the alphabet related to the vocabulary words in
the songs.
Procedure -Play an instrumental of the ABC song
-Ask the students if it sound familiar to them, after the song is over we will
ask them to all say one time what song they think it was from.
-We then will explain to them that there are a variety of songs that have the
same rhythm and what exactly rhythm is.
-We will also explain to them what humming is and practice that with them.
-We will begin by recapping the ABC song. We will play a video of it and
have the students hum along with us.
-We will play only the instrumental of the ABC song and have them hum
along to that as well to ensure they recognize the rhythm.
-We will then play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for the students and
encourage them to hum along.
-After the song is over we will say a word from the song and tell the students
to go find the corresponding picture hanging on the wall in the room. We
will do two pictures for each song.
-We will tell the students that they have to write the letter that the word
starts with underneath the picture. We will encourage them to say the word
out loud and sound it out to help them figure out the letter. We will
encourage discussion with other classmates about the image.
-After the students have all observed the image we will have them create a
single file line in front of the picture and one at a time they will write on the
given paper what letter they believe the word starts with.
-While they are writing the letter, we will have the ABC instrumental playing
in the background and once it stops, that means it is time for everyone to be
in their seats if they are not already.
-We will repeat these steps for each word (6 words total), then repeat the
whole process for Row Row Row Your Boat and The Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Learning Objectives Students will be able to:

-Gain an understanding of what rhythm is.
-Identify and recognize the ABC song rhythm and associate it with other
songs.

boat, etc.

from the song. Under each picture there will be space for each student to

if they can identify the correct image, beginning letter and, how well they
can write it.
