RESUMEN
ABSTRACT
The presence of arsenic in the sources of water supply is undesirable because of its
negative effects on health. This work presents the use in an adsorbent medium
consisting of a natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) coated with iron oxides, from ferric
chloride, to remove arsenic from natural waters.
The fixation of the iron oxides on the surface of the filter material results in an
effective contact medium for removing arsenic, which combines the advantages of a
conventional filter and a medium in the environment. easy to operate In addition,
natural zeolite with cation exchange properties is an excellent support for these
oxides.
In the laboratory it is water with an arsenic content of 0.5 mg / L, treating up to 212
L / L of bed, obtaining a final concentration below the maximum permissible limit
(0.045 mg / l), which is met in the modification to standard NOM127-SSA1 -1994.
